Guess what is making me crazy! Geese!!! They are a problem, and I know we all hate p**p everywhere. I’m starting with the most humane option with this "Away with Geese" thing that’s supposed to work miracles. It floats and makes it hard for them to sleep with a flashing light or some other nonsense. I just know it was $450 and that wasn’t fun. If it doesn’t get rid of them, we will look at other options.
I also hate how the pond looks. With no rain forever, the water is just sitting there nearly stagnant. We have passed our weekly state water tests every week, but the alge and grossness just keeps growing. I’ve used the big skid steer to get all the muck I can, but it looked worse than ever today. The new sand helps some but the water looks terrible. We used the tractor and rake to make the sand look nice. But between the green grossness and the geese, it’s been a battle. I did buy some pond aerators last year. There are two in the pond to keep the muck down and help the fish by getting air in the water and circulating water but it’s hopeless without and rain to get new water in. Those were over a thousand, so I don’t know about getting more. A cool fountain would be amazing, but that’s about 3k. Always hard choices. Do we spend thousands on making the roads better, thousands in sand for the beach, stock the pond again, an expensive fountain, better drains and pumps for heavy rains, upgrade the clubhouse, remodel the creek bathrooms (they are bad) and many other things? I want to balance a great campground without raising seasonal rates too much. But I hope everyone sees that the money you pay goes into big changes at Hoosierland.
I just wanted everyone to know that I do take these things seriously, but sometimes we are fighting against Mother Nature and her monster geese that just p**p everywhere! I hate when things are disappointing, I’m disappointed too.
On a more positive note, I’m getting the roads fixed up and cleaning up some areas. Big projects are getting finished. Sites and roads don’t flood. Areas are getting contoured for drainage. But growing new grass isn’t really possible right now. But when I quit destroying all the grass and it grows back in, Hoosierland is going to look better than it ever has and will have great full hookup sites and an amazing sewer system.
Finally, I’m really happy with the vibe this year. Things are calm and positive and fun. I think the Hoosierland feel is exactly what I envisioned Hoosierland could become. Thanks to everyone. Some are helping with activities, some are joining in and having fun with the activities, some are relaxing and doing their own thing, and no one is complaining and being negative unless it’s constructive and helps solve problems to get things good again. I’m seriously very proud of all of us. We are definitely a camping family and that’s pretty cool. Things are good at Hoosierland… except for the geese! 😡
