Lone Star Bed & Bale

Lone Star Bed & Bale Lone Star Bed & Bale
The stopping spot for you and your horses on the high plains! We are an over night stay facility that caters to people who haul horses.

Our customers range from people moving their animals to a new home, trainers taking their horses to world shows, haulers moving horses for clients, and the Budweiser Clydesdale horses as they travel from show to show. We offer a wonderful barn that is insulated with large stalls that are both matted and bedded for the comfort of your animal. We also provide a fly-spray system for the evenings when

those pesky flies and/or mosquitoes have invaded. For our animal friends that prefer the wide open spaces we have outside pens where your horse can move around after a long day on the trailer. BUT WAIT............we haven't forgotten our human customers. In addition to our wonderful facilities for the animals we have guest rooms for people who do not have living quarters in their horse trailers. We have three guest rooms in "The Bunkhouse" available. Each room has two queen beds and a private bathroom. We also provide cable TV (Dish) and free WiFi throughout the facility. If you do have a living quarters trailer, hookups are available in your choice of 30amp or 50amp with water. (Sorry, no dump station is available) We also have a beautiful screened patio area where you can visit with other guests, play some games or just find a quiet corner and catch up with your work or friends on the computer.

IT'S MUD SEASON! 🌧️ DO YOU KNOW WHAT CAUSES A HOOF ABSCESS?

The scenario is all too familiar for many horse owners: yesterday your horse was sound, but today you find him three-legged lame, with no apparent injury. What could have happened? Well, you say, my horse is likely working on a foot abscess. But what does that actually mean?

Although most commonly seen during the wet winter and spring months, hoof abscesses can plague horses year-round and usually occur when debris and bacteria enter the foot through hoof cracks and wounds, even horseshoeing holes. The bacteria then get trapped between the sensitive laminae (the tissue layer that bonds the hoof capsule to the coffin bone) and the hoof wall or sole and create pus; the pus builds up over the course of time and puts pressure behind the hoof wall or sole, until it causes the sudden onset of acute lameness when the pain finally becomes too great.

The diagram below shows a simplified view of the equine hoof to help you visualize the structures involved in this process.

Hoof abscesses can mimic other more serious diseases or injuries, so involving your veterinarian early on in the diagnosis and prompt treatment of this condition is always a good idea. Some abscesses will be uncomplicated and rupture on their own like a large pimple at the coronary band or heel bulbs; other abscesses, however, could require radiographs and will need to be surgically drained.
