We have been retired since the end of February but I have been busier than ever. I don't know what I have been doing really, but very busy. And here it is tourist season again, there are lots of people in town and in the supermarkets, restaurants are crowded. But I don't have to make breakfast for anyone! Or get up early, or clean rooms (except ours). What a nice relaxing feeling. We do miss the people but we are getting to spend much more time with friends. If you are a former guest we'd love to see you, just call first and I'll put the kettle on.

Rainy day in Anacortes. But I got a lot of work done, made soup and took a little time to relax. Now it's clearing and we're heading out for a walk. I'm enjoying retirement!

Since closing the bed & breakfast we have been making some changes, which has been really fun. Some new light fixtures, furniture, carpet soon to come. Just for our living room so far, giving it a lift. And lots of the leafy decor is gone, so we are looking sort of plain, but I like it. It's time, after 18 years!

Who would have thought that closing a business was so much work!?! Almost as much as opening it. But I am almost done with closing accounts, notifying websites and licensing agencies etc. etc. People keep asking me how it feels to be retired. If I'm honest I say exhausting. But usually I just say great.

Roger and I have an announcement to make that is kind of sad and kind of exciting. As of tomorrow, Feb 28, we are closing Autumn Leaves Bed & Breakfast. We have enjoyed 18 years of guests. We have laughed with you, cried, prayed and shared stories. Thanks to each of you, and we will miss you. But it's time for a change, to relax a little and spend more time with friends and hobbies and travel. We are staying in the house for the foreseeable future and would welcome anyone who wants to call and come by for a chat and a cup of tea. We'll keep the business page open also so we can stay in touch. Again, thank you.

Anyone else hate spending a day on taxes??? Especially when you find out you have to pay a lot. Just once I'd like to get a refund! or at least break even. Is that asking too much? Okay, I'm done with my rant. Time to drink tea and spend half an hour with my book. It's about someone who was buried alive. More cheerful than taxes.

The dreaded winter cold has got me for the second time in a couple of months. I should own stock in Kleenex. Good news is I have a few good books to read and a warm fire to sit in front of. Roger has been bringing me tea and hopefully will bring me pizza for dinner. Could be worse!

We just noticed that our daffodils are starting to come up. Good to know spring is coming -- another month or so! On another note, if you are thinking of coming to Anacortes any time soon, try to catch the ACT play. It is Enchanted April and it's one of ACT's best, though most of them are good. Sometimes I don't like the choice of plays but they are always well acted and directed. This one was a real treat, we loved every minute of it. Great way to spend a drizzly afternoon!

It's grey and rainy today but we are going to a play and then out to dinner with friends. THere's always something to do in Anacortes . if we're really good we'll go for a walk in the afternoon . It's not too cold and hopefully we can dodge the raindrops

We had a tea for 12 of my women friends last week. One of the things everyone loved were currant scones, with my home made black and blueberry jam. We had chicken puffs too, and various other goodies. Blueberry/pecan cake and almond tarts. Now for the diet. But if you love scones like my friends do, request them when you make your reservation. Always happy to make them!

It's a cold, rainy day. Perfect for moving furniture! I decided to rearrange the sitting room. Roger mostly did the rearranging; I did the directing and supervising. We spent four hours on it, tried everything conceivable. Ended up putting it all back exactly where it was. But on the plus side, he doesn't have to go to the gym today.

We spent most of today taking down the Christmas decorations, always kind of sad. The house looks clean but very plain. I had promised myself I would get rid of a lot of ornaments after Christmas, and I did package up a few things for the humane society thrift shop. But most of it got squeezed back into boxes and taken to the storage area under the house. Until next year.
