Stay updated with Bear Paw Adventure by joining our newsletter: http://zc.vg/1jtio Bear Paw Adventure’s unique log buildings, the Wise Old Hunter Lodge, the Anchor Point Captain Cook Lodge, and the Moose Cabin and the Bear Den Vacation Home, were built by the Bear Paw family using beetle-killed trees from the property or from nearby. BPA’s buildings are considered unique, even for this picturesque Alaska location, because of the handcrafted style of the buildings, Alaskan furnishings including full-body big game mounts, log furniture and the extent to which the buildings are stocked with supplies. Guests that stay with BPA not only enjoy comfortable and interesting lodging, they also continue to experience the wonders of Alaska while at the lodge or cabin, enjoying the décor, wildlife and natural settings of the site.

"Sleep in the heart of Alaska’s history — where the Dena’ina once walked, and adventure still calls."

Before Anchor Point was a fishing paradise, it was home to the Dena’ina Athabascans — masters of the land and sea. Their spirit still flows through the rivers, forests, and coastline that you’ll explore when you stay at Bear Paw Adventure.

Private cabins, just steps from wild beauty, and with History woven into every view.

Your Alaskan adventure starts here — make it legendary.

The names of two of our four buildings, Bear Den and Moose Cabin, point to the rich subarctic land’s furs that coastal Sugpiaq/Alutiiq maritime hunters eagerly traded with the inland Dena'ina centuries ago. At Bear Paw Adventure, we invite you to do more than just sightsee. We invite you to slow down, connect with the ancient spirit of Yaghanen ("the good land."), and experience an authentic slice of Alaska that remains wild and spectacular.

When you stay at Bear Paw Adventure and head out to cast a fly for King and Silver salmon in the legendary Anchor River, you are wading in waters where early peoples perfected the art of seasonal harvesting. When you fly across Cook Inlet for an unforgettable day of bear viewing, you are observing creatures that held a sacred, deeply respected place in traditional Alutiiq and Dena'ina conservation beliefs.

Long before historic Anchor Point became the most westerly point on our continent's continuous road system, this untamed stretch of the Kenai Peninsula was known to the Dena'ina Athabascan people as Yaghanen—"the good land." When you base your Alaskan journey out of our handcrafted log cabins, you are stepping directly into that timeless heritage. Come stay in "Yaghanen" and enjoy one of our cabins, like the Moose Cabin shown below.

There have been a lot of rabbits on our property at Bear Paw Adventure the last two years. Their presence has attracted some of the less-seen critters of the Kenai Peninsula, including this Lynx, photographed yesterday by Leo.

Some of the early Alaskan’s built subterranean sod houses, sometimes called a barabara. These might be framed with driftwood and weatherproofed (more or less) with sod and mud. The entire family lived there, using a central hearth for heat and cooking and a small vent hole in the top for the smoke. This image is a cutaway model of one of these houses that I made one winter. You will see it when you stay in our Bear Den Vacation Home, at Anchor Point.

A ghostly view of Augustine Volcano with a fishing boat out in front. The sunlight on the water appears like chunks of ice. Augustine is one of four volcanoes that can be seen across the road from Bear Paw Adventure's property near Anchor Point on the Kenai Peninsula.

The gift shop at Bear Paw Adventure got a new entrance deck. We plan to stock up on gift items for next summer and reopen the shop. We would like to hear from our customers what Alaska items they would like to see.
