Indigenous Peoples’ Day is a time to honor the cultures, histories, and contributions of Alaska Native peoples, and to recognize the generations of knowledge, traditions, and stories that continue to shape our communities.

At The Wildbirch, we are grateful to welcome guests to Anchorage, located on the traditional lands of the Dena’ina Athabascan people. We recognize the Dena’ina as the original stewards of this land and acknowledge their enduring connection to the place we are fortunate to call home.

In recognition of Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we want to encourage our community to learn, explore, and connect with the stories that make Alaska so extraordinary.

We're giving away two tickets to the Anchorage Museum and a $100 gift card to Crimson, offering an opportunity to experience Alaska's rich cultural heritage and enjoy a meal together.

Last Friday, the Yukon Gallery welcomed the community for an evening with acclaimed Alaska artist and mask-maker Drew Michael ().

Presented as part of our First Friday series, the exhibition featured new contemporary masks and sculptural works shaped by Drew’s Yup’ik and Inupiaq heritage.

Thank you to everyone who spent the evening with us, engaged with the collection, and helped fill the gallery with thoughtful conversation and connection. And a special thank you to Drew for sharing his work, perspective, and creativity with us.

We’re proud to continue making the Yukon Gallery a place where Alaska art and the stories behind it can be experienced and celebrated.

And the conversation continues. Join us on October 21 at 7 PM for Resistance: A Collaborative Alaska Native Art Exhibition, featuring another special activation with Drew Michael in the Yukon Lounge. We look forward to welcoming you back for another evening celebrating Alaska Native art, creativity, and community.

There’s always more to a piece of art than what you see on the wall.

We sat down with our October featured artist, Drew Michael, to talk about the stories and experiences that shape his work and what it means to share something so personal with the community that helped inspire it.

This Friday, we invite you to experience Drew’s work for yourself at the Yukon Gallery during our First Friday art show.

Friday, October 2 | 5–8 PM
