Already twice awarded, it's on 18 wooded acres. Restful comfort, historic details, extraordinary style. I have had my eye on this singular, beautiful place, on 18 wooded acres for nearly 30 years! My husband and I, with the help of our business partner, "the shoehorn," purchased it on April Fools' Day, 2021, and with lightning speed restored and furnished it. Over 150 people contributed to its pre

servation. Of course, it was an expensive endeavor AND we wanted to share it with the community, so we've opened it up to guests as a vacation rental. You can book directly on our website, via Airbnb, or VRBO. The man who built it in 1868, William Henry Brisbane, was an abolitionist from South Carolina. Dedicated to human rights, we wanted to highlight his courage and his story. Read acrostics he wrote about his wife along with other snippets from his diaries in a collage that hangs in the summer kitchen bedroom. In order to further honor his legacy, all of the contemporary art on the walls is by nationally recognized artists of color, and there's a small library of anti-racist books and books by Black authors. LGBTQ and BIPOC embraced. We live in Madison, Wisconsin, 30 miles away, and I run a chamber music festival (Bach Dancing & Dynamite Society) and Bruce is a visual artist (thelastglaciercollective.com). I can't live without travel and cooking and eating great, local food. I love all things Italian and I play tennis and pond hockey. I'm a native Wisconsinite (so that means I love up north, too). Bruce loves the ocean and mountains, having grown up in Southern California.
