Info regarding the gate inside the park between Longmire and Paradise.

Starting Thursday, October 29, 2026, the gate at Longmire to Paradise will close nightly.

Gate Schedule:
- Gate opens 9:00 am
- Uphill gate closes 3:00 pm
- Downhill gate closes 4:00 pm**

**It is recommended to leave Paradise by 3:30 pm in order to safely drive down the hill and exit the gate at Longmire before it locks for the night.

The road may have a delayed opening, close early, or remain closed the entire day due to weather or staffing conditions, as determined by the Winter Road Opening Matrix: https://go.nps.gov/WinterRoadOpeningMatrix

Some updates!

We were recently notified that Mt Rainier National Park is implementing a timed entrance reservation requirement for this summer between May and September from 7am through 3pm. A reservation won’t be required if entering the park before 7 am or after 3 pm. I am adding the web page for more info. https://www.nps.gov/mora/planyourvisit/timed-entry-reservations-faq.htm.

Reservations are needed to enter the Paradise Corridor (entering through the Nisqually Entrance or through the Stevens Canyon Entrance) and to enter the Sunrise Corridor (entering through the White River Entrance).
