We hear this question every fall: is Mount Rainier open in November?

It is. Paradise Inn has closed for the season and will welcome guests again in 2027, but the Nisqually Entrance stays open year-round, and National Park Inn keeps its lights on in the Longmire Historic District all winter long. That means 25 guest rooms, a dining room, and a gift shop waiting just inside the park, even on the greyest November afternoon.

Above Longmire, access follows the weather. The road up to Paradise opens and closes with conditions, so check the National Park Service road status before you head up.

Caught mid-snack right off the trail, antlers still growing in for the season. Moments like this are why it pays to keep your eyes up while you hike here, the wildlife doesn't hide, it just goes about its day right next to you. Mount Rainier in the background doesn't hurt either.

The fire's going, the chairs are worn in just right, and there's nowhere else you need to be. This is the version of the mountain most people don't post, the quiet one, indoors, after the hike's done and the light's fading. Sometimes the best part of the trip is just sitting still.

Water Watch 💧

The drought hasn't eased with the changing season. Water availability at Paradise remains critically limited, and conservation matters just as much in October as it did in August. Short showers, refill stations over bottled water, and a little more mindfulness go a long way.

Road closure tonight near the Nisqually Entrance.

From 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, to 6 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, State Route 706 will be closed at Kernahan Road East while WSDOT crews replace a failing culvert ahead of storm season.

During the closure, there will be no access from SR 706 to the Nisqually Entrance of Mount Rainier National Park. If you’re driving in late tonight or early tomorrow morning, plan around it.

Check WSDOT for live updates before you head out.

Glacial melt cutting straight through stone, this is the raw, unfiltered version of the park most visitors walk right past. No trail markers needed here, just the sound of moving water and rock that's been shaped over centuries. This is the kind of thing you stop for, even if you weren't planning to.
