🌅 Did You Know? Lake Harris Was Once Called the “Lake of Sunbeams”! 🙌😃😍

Before it became Lake Harris, this beautiful body of water was known as Lake Astatula, a name traditionally translated as “Lake of Sunbeams.” With sunrises like the ones we enjoy at Hide-A-Way Harbor, it’s easy to see how that name came to be! ☀️

Here are a few more fun facts about our lake:

🌊 Lake Harris covers approximately 15,672 acres.
🗺️ It is part of the Harris Chain of Lakes, a system totaling more than 75,000 acres.
🎣 The chain is one of Central Florida’s best-known destinations for bass fishing and regularly attracts fishing tournaments.
🚤 Its interconnected waterways offer miles of opportunities for boating, fishing and wildlife watching.
💧 The Harris Chain forms the headwaters of Florida’s Ocklawaha River.

At Hide-A-Way Harbor, we’re fortunate to have all this history and natural beauty right outside our door—because the lake truly is our lobby! 🧡
