This Is What I Wish You Could See ❤️

Last weekend started out as usual. But as MURPHY’s law says Anything that could go wrong, will go wrong. Pretty much our motto this summer.

I got up early and started getting ready to serve breakfast, and as luck would have it — the electricity went out.

Someone had hit a utility pole on Route 145, and suddenly we had no power.

For a moment, there was that feeling of “Okay… what are we going to do now?”

Then everyone went to work.

We scrambled to figure out how we could serve our guests without electricity. And I have to say, I was incredibly proud of our staff. There were no complaints, no pointing fingers, no panic. Everyone just jumped in, figured it out and got to work.

And our guests were amazing too. They were patient, understanding and accommodating while we worked through the problem.

That’s what small-town business looks like.

It’s the late-night cleanups. The early mornings. The endless list of things that go wrong. The problems you never planned for. And somehow, you figure them out — because you have to.

Behind every resort, motel, restaurant and small business in East Durham are people putting their heart and soul into keeping things going.

There are no big corporations here. No CEO salaries. Just hardworking, down-to-earth people who care about their businesses, their employees, their families and this community.

And the best part is — we’re all in this together.

Every person who comes down Route 145, stays at a motel, eats at a restaurant, listens to music, has a drink or stops into a local business helps another small business keep going.

So when you visit East Durham, I hope you realize there is a whole lot more happening behind the scenes than you see.

And to our staff, our fellow business owners and our guests who roll with the unexpected — thank you.

This little town has a whole lot of heart. ❤️
