Federal per diem rates are increasing for FY2027, giving hotel owners a more accurate benchmark for today’s business travel costs.

Effective October 1, the standard lodging rate will rise from $110 to $113 per night, with additional increases in several markets—the first increase in two years.

AAHOA supports this increase and will continue advocating for hotel owners. Later this month, AAHOA members will take that advocacy to Washington, D.C., at the National Leadership & Advocacy Conference, September 15–16.

This National Hotel Employee Day, AAHOA is proud to celebrate the dedicated employees who are the heart of hospitality. 💙

Established by the American Hotel & Lodging Association - AHLA, National Hotel Employee Day recognizes the more than 2 million hotel employees whose hard work keeps our industry and communities moving forward.

This year, we asked AAHOA Members to recognize outstanding employees and share heartfelt messages about their dedication, leadership, and growth. Their stories bring this year's theme, "A Place to Start. A Place to Grow," to life.

To every hotel employee: Thank you for all you do.

Policy is more impactful when policymakers see the business behind it.

AAHOA Leadership, including AAHOA Treasurer Vimal (Ricky) Patel, Gulf Regional Director Mayur (Mack) Patel, Snehal Patel, AAHOA Ambassador, and Kevin Sloan, Industry Partner on the AAHOA Board of Directors and Managing Partner at GMH Claims, joined U.S. Representative Troy Carter (D-LA) for a Back of the House Tour at the member-owned Residence Inn French Quarter in New Orleans, giving Rep. Carter and special guest Louisiana State Senator Royce Duplessis a firsthand look at the complexity of running a hotel.

Also in attendance were member-owned property Intermountain Management, their regional director Wayne Hendricks, and Lifetime Member Vedant Vasanji.
The conversation covered key issues affecting hotel owners and small businesses, including support for the STRONG Act to increase SBA 7(a) and 504 lending and the Credit Card Competition Act to increase competition and lower interchange fee costs for small businesses.

Back of the House Tours bring policymakers directly into hotel operations and create a valuable opportunity to connect legislation with the realities facing hospitality businesses every day.

Past AAHOA Chairwoman Jagruti Panwala (2019-2020) has been named the 2026 recipient of the Peggy Berg Castell Award by the AHLA Foundation in recognition of her leadership and commitment to advancing women in the hospitality industry.

Jagruti made history as AAHOA's first chairwoman and helped pave the way for more women to see themselves in leadership roles within the hotel industry. She also serves on the Board of Directors of the AAHOA Charitable Foundation, which amplifies charitable initiatives for worthy causes, offers educational scholarships and grants, and provides vital aid to those in need.

Presented annually by the AHLA Foundation, the Peggy Berg Castell Award recognizes female leaders who embody the qualities of changemakers and champions of gender equity while helping create a stronger path for future generations of women in hospitality.

Jagruti will receive the honor on October 7 during The Lodging Conference 2026 in Phoenix.

Why HerO? 💜

For some women, HerOwnership is a new opportunity. For others, it's a tradition they have been part of since the very beginning. In our Why HerO? series, we’re sharing the stories and perspectives of the women who make this community so special.

Here’s why Maya Patel, AAHOA Lifetime Member and Ambassador, continues to return:

"I’m registered for the Women’s Conference, and I’ve been attending since Year 1.

I’m a hotel owner-turned-hotel broker, and I’ve been heavily involved with AAHOA as an Ambassador since 2009. I’m also proud to have been a Lifetime Member for all these years.

What I love most about the Women’s Conference is the opportunity to highlight and celebrate the incredible women hoteliers who are the backbone of this industry. It’s also such a wonderful opportunity to meet like-minded women in business, reconnect with longtime hotelier friends, and make new connections every time I attend.

I truly value how we can learn from and support one another by bringing together our collective experiences, knowledge, and perspectives from generations of hotel industry leaders. To me, the conference is about so much more than networking. It’s a place to learn, collaborate, empower one another, share our experiences, and build genuine friendships within our industry."

Join us in Nashville for the 5th Annual HerOwnership Conference, September 27–28. Registration is complimentary for AAHOA Members and nonmembers. Register today and stay tuned for more Why HerO? stories from the incredible women in our community. https://bit.ly/4vSlLnA
