What does it take to run a hotel, and what policy challenges are affecting owners on the ground? AAHOA’s Back of the House Tours bring those conversations directly to lawmakers.

AAHOA South Florida Regional Director Meghna Patel facilitated recent tours with Congressman Mike Haridopolos (R-FL) at the Melbourne hotel of AAHOA Lifetime Member Dipak Patidar and Congressman Greg Steube (R-FL) at an AAHOA Lifetime Member’s hotel in Sarasota.

Alongside discussions with local AAHOA Members and Ambassadors, the visits highlighted rising construction and land costs, supply chain shortages, increasing tariffs, insurance costs, and frivolous lawsuits.

Members also discussed AAHOA’s legislative priorities, including raising the SBA loan limit to $10 million, the Lawsuit Abuse Reduction Act, the American Franchise Act, and the Credit Card Competition Act of 2026.

By connecting lawmakers with hotel owners and with the realities of hotel operations, these tours help keep the industry’s priorities in the conversation.

Building stronger communities starts with collaboration.

After more than two months of collaboration with retired Councilman Andy Melendrez, four Ward 6 business owners met with Riverside City Councilmember Hernandez to discuss neighborhood safety, cleanup, and ongoing local concerns.

Organized by AAHOA South Pacific Ambassador Dharmesh Kumar, the meeting sparked ideas for public-private partnerships that bring local businesses and government together to address community needs.

Strong partnerships between hotel owners and law enforcement make communities safer for guests, employees, and neighbors.

AAHOA South Florida Regional Director Meghna Patel, AAHOA Past Chairman Bharat Patel (2023–2024), and local AAHOA Members recently met with leadership from the Lee County Sheriff's Office and Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey to discuss concerns facing local hoteliers and to build stronger working relationships with the agencies that serve them.

Fair competition and rate parity remain important issues for hotel owners.

AAHOA Secretary Dhiren Masters and Immediate Past Chairman Kamalesh (KP) Patel met with Rohit Chopra, Secretary of California’s new Business and Consumer Services Agency, to discuss rate parity and the competitive challenges hotel brands face when online travel agencies (OTAs) can offer discounts that brands cannot.
