Stories under the oak tree...The Victoria Oak...let the children come to me

The loss of a loved one is the deepest pain. And the loss of a child is unimaginable. Pain so deep.

So is the story of The Victoria Oak.

A story of excitement...pain...healing.

God places people and places in your path for His purpose. During our "working years", while "the job" got us to a certain place and time, it was never the true purpose. There was always something greater He had in store for our growth...for His kingdom.

So was our time in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

God placed a young, "Aussie" couple in our path. A couple that became / are dear friends. A couple starting a family...expecting the arrival of their first child...a daughter...Victoria.

Unfortunately, Victoria would not take her first breath.

The deepest of pain. How does one heal from such suffering?

In a small way, 4Oaks Ranch became a place to get away from the pace of life at the time for us and the couple. And maybe healing. There was always something to do in those early days. Clearing mesquite trees, painting fence posts, etc. And those Aussie's are workers!

The Victoria Oak was the first "robles" dedicated to the "strong people" God has graced our lives. The first dedicated to our sweet Victoria. So, loved. So, missed.

I came upon this majestic post oak tree 12 years ago as I broke through a thicket of vines and brush. It had fought off the encroaching underbrush and preserved an open spot as its limbs reached for the skies. The strongest robles in the grove. A special robles.

So began the dedication of various oak trees on 4Oaks Ranch to the strong people in our lives. The Victoria oak is dedicated to the strength and healing of a young couple who love their daughter so much. To a little one so loved.

Occasionally, as we pass by the Victoria oak, we see the swing swaying in the Central Texas south wind. And our mind's eye knows a beautiful little blond hair girl is laughing and swinging in the gentle spring breeze. A little girl so loved.

Let the children come to me...

Post script...Victoria has a handsome brother and beautiful sister spreading joy in strength to others with their mom and dad down under today!

Stories under the oak tree...fishing.

Your senses excite as your lure sinks below the surface. Will this be the cast?

Your adrenaline spikes as you feel "the hit". You grip the rod tight as you reel against tension.

"Don't lose it", you faintly hear in the background as all your focus is on the end of the line as it jerks back and forth on the surface.

With each wrap of line on the Zebco reel you imagine...2 lb...3lb...oh my...4 lb...it's a monster!!!

The battle seems to last forever. But you stand firm and continue to reel.

And finally with a smile spanning cheek to cheek, you pull the prize close.

You did it!!! Your first fish caught and landed!!!

What joy and excitement to see a little one catch their first fish. A special moment indeed.

Many a setting sunset day is enjoyed casting a spinner bait into one of the tanks at 4Oaks Ranch. And occasionally God graces you with "a catch".

Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men. Matthew 4:19

And oh, what joy is celebrated in the heavens when the Holy Spirit enters the heart of one of God's children when our daily casts of love and grace get "a hit".

Each day our Savior enables us with the tackle of His grace, mercy, love, redemption, and sanctification through his red-letter words. And we have the joyous commission to cast that tackle daily without ceasing.

Keep casting. We live in an ocean of fish seeking God's grace and love. We are the fisherman.

And enjoy each catch with a smile cheek to cheek!

Stories under the oak tree..."our 4 robles"

Robles in Spanish is oak tree. Robles is also a term used to refer to a strong person...a robles.

"Rancho de los Cutro Robles" (Ranch of the 4 oak trees) was chosen not only due to the fact the ranch is covered with native post oak groves, but more that God blessed Jeff & Cindy with 4 "robles", strong children; Jared, Justen, Jorden, and Caitlen.

In 2021, Jeff & Cindy were living and working in Bangkok, Thailand. One Saturday they ventured to the downtown Chatuchak weekend market. As they maneuvered the maze of kiosks, they came upon a bronze sculpture that made them stop in their tracks.

A tree...a robles. Three boys, and a little girl....robles.

A protecting, caring big brother helping his strong lil sister up the tree...Jared and Caitlen.

One thoughtful boy gazing to the horizon pondering a deep question...Justen.

And one courageous lil brother, upside down attempting to defy gravity...Jorden.

A surprising representation of the spirit of their 4 robles...their 4 children.

The sculpture eventually made its way across the oceans in 1922 and now graces the entry circle drive to the 4Oaks Ranch "ranch house".

They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor. Isaiah 61:3
