Hope Lodge Baltimore The American Cancer Society saves lives and creates more birthdays by helping you stay well, helping

Getting emotional and social support from other survivors can be as important as getting the proper medical care. At the Hope Lodge, patients live with other people going through similar experiences, and are supported by caring staff and volunteers. The nurturing, comfortable environment at Hope Lodge allows patients to focus on what is most important - fighting cancer.

We are very grateful to the volunteers who helped us move into our new Hope Lodge. This included a team from APGFCU that organized and packed supplies, proving that, “Many hands make light work!” The connection with APGFCU runs deep; for many years, APGFCU has supported and sponsored For Life of Harford County. For Mannone, APGFCU chief consumer lending officer, volunteering at Hope Lodge was a full-circle moment. Years ago, her mother, who had a rare sinus cancer, stayed at a Hope Lodge in Gainesville for eight weeks during treatment. Robyn’s parents lived in Leesburg, Florida, two and a half hours from treatment which created “logistical challenges,” said Robyn, who referred them to Hope Lodge because of her knowledge from Relay. “Thanks to Hope Lodge, my parents could focus on my mother getting better without driving five hours daily to treatment. As a caregiver, my father was able to relax in the common gathering areas of Hope Lodge while my mother rested after treatment. He felt like it was home. It was fabulous for them.”

“The new Hope Lodge Baltimore is clean, crisp, welcoming, and refreshing. It’s a whole new chapter of life for Hope Lodge. I’m very impressed with the convenient location close to University of Maryland, Johns Hopkins Medicine, Maryland Proton Treatment Center and Mercy Medical Center (Baltimore, Maryland),” said Robyn, who places great importance on giving back to the community. She was recently recognized as one of The Daily Record's 2026 Top 100 Women for her volunteerism and accomplishments.

Jason Seifried of Warrenton, Virginia had very specific reasons to seek treatment 90 miles from home at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore for his HPV related cancer. The treatment for his type of cancer could result in difficulty eating, swallowing, speaking, and loss of taste. He learned that Johns Hopkins specialized in preserving quality of life for cases like his that involved his tonsils, throat, and nearby lymph nodes.

Following two surgeries, he required lengthy outpatient radiation oncology and chemotherapy. “Ultimately, I thought that I was going to have to self-fund lodging.” he said. “However, the Johns Hopkins staff told me about Hope Lodge Baltimore. Initially, one is skeptical when you find out that something is being offered for free. To my amazement, Hope Lodge was wonderful. The experience was fantastic from the moment I walked through the door. The staff are super kind, understanding, and respectful. I couldn’t eat, taste, nor swallow easily. Several other guests had the same type of cancer I did, so we could relate to each other plus I saw them at radiation treatment. We formed our own type of support.”

He appreciated the volunteers who served group meals although his diet was limited. “The community meals bring everyone out of their rooms in the evenings to socialize. It’s one of the nice blessings,” said Jason, who worked remotely from his Hope Lodge guest room. “The centralized resources like the kitchen and library are great. I read several books.”

As the father of three children, Jason appreciated staying at Hope Lodge to take the worry off his wife and children who cared for him during his rough recoveries at home following his surgeries. “My wife could focus on our children and take care of our home,” he said. “Hope Lodge was nothing but accommodating during my treatment. My stay was 51 days.”
