January is the best month to remodel, and almost nobody tells you that.

Spring is when everyone in Baltimore County calls a contractor at once. Winter is when there's room on the schedule. And kitchens and bathrooms are inside work, so the weather doesn't matter.

The catch: design, selections and material lead times take eight to twelve weeks. A January start means the conversation happens now.

Thinking about a kitchen remodel? Three things are worth deciding before you call anyone.

1. What's actually bothering you. "Dated" and "doesn't work" are different problems, and they come with different price tags.
2. Whether the layout moves. Keeping the sink and stove where they are keeps plumbing and electrical costs down. Sometimes by a lot.
3. What you can live with while the work is on. Full kitchens run five to seven weeks of active work, so plan where you'll cook.

The original chimney now anchors the seating. Sage green lowers and white uppers wrap the room, and faux wood beams and floating shelves finish it off. Same footprint, completely different room.

How long will my bathroom take?

"How long will my bathroom take?" It's the question we get right after cost, so here's the real answer.

A full gut remodel, down to the studs, takes three to four weeks of active work. If the walls and plumbing stay where they are, it's closer to two weeks. A big room with a lot going on (new subfloor, heated floors, custom glass) can run up to five.

The part most people don't hear: the clock starts after the decisions. We get your tile, vanity and glass chosen and ordered first, so the crew never stops mid-job waiting on a delivery.

Before and after on a kitchen we finished in Baltimore County.

The original brick chimney was always staying — you don't rip that out of a house that old, you build around it. Everything else went.

Dark cabinets and a closed-in galley became white uppers, green lowers, open shelving where the wall cabinets used to crowd the window, and quartz throughout. Same room, twice the light.

This is the kind of project people assume needs an addition. It didn't. It needed the layout rethought and the right things taken out.

If your kitchen feels smaller than it is, that's usually fixable without moving a wall. Happy to tell you whether yours is 👇
