Well Friends, it’s been three years since Laura Peterson, former owner of this beautiful property, passed away.
She was a dear friend of mine and it was difficult to see her suffer from alcoholism and mental illness through the years. After spending time at Gordon House to recover, she returned to the property in February 2016. Somehow she discovered a case of wine in her refrigerator and drank it until she perished by seizure.
Her estate has been settled with her nieces receiving only jewelry, and others receiving her art pieces, a home full of furniture and final bank balance. A travesty? Yes.
However, it is really about the wonderful memories we hold dear to us and not the monetary gains.
I’ll remember her in her finer days when we laughed and celebrated her new life in Charlottesville, before she met the people who would ultimately take it all from her. Here’s to Laura— a wonderful woman, sister, and friend.
