WAVES UP TO 30 FEET POSSIBLE ON THE GREAT LAKES FRIDAY!

Things are about to get pretty rough on the Great Lakes! Strong winds on Friday will kick up some impressive waves, with dangerous marine conditions expected across portions of the lakes. Lake Michigan could see significant wave heights reaching 18–23 feet, with occasional waves approaching 30 feet in portions of the open lake! Lake Superior isn’t far behind, with occasional waves up to 25 feet, while Lake Huron could see occasional waves reaching 23 feet.

Strong northwest to northerly winds will be responsible for the rough conditions, with gale-force winds across portions of the lakes and even storm-force winds possible on Lake Superior! These are offshore wave forecasts, so conditions will vary closer to shore. Dangerous waves and currents could make shoreline areas hazardous, especially around piers and breakwalls.

Stay out of the water and off piers and breakwalls! We’ll continue monitoring conditions as Friday approaches.
