Thank you to all the Homeschoolers who were able to come out to the enchanted forest to learn about fire safety 🔥 Together we were able to raise $28 for the PAL stand in Alfred. Everyone really enjoyed the s'mores.

**Update** We have reached capacity for this class. I have sent confirmation emails to all families today. If you are not able to attend, just let us know so another family may have the opportunity. We look forward to greeting you all in a few weeks!

Getting ready to host another free homeschool event. Join us for an afternoon in the enchanted forest, where will learn the origins of Smokey Bear & discuss fire safety. This is a carry in/out event, please feel free to pack a lunch. After lunch, William, will demonstrate a few safe fire starting techniques & we will offer smores kits for sale, $1 each, to benefit our local animal rescue, The PAL Stand in Alfred. We had a terrible tragedy occur in our family last summer, not here at Pollywogg Holler, but it sure did make me think about pond safety even more.

How to build a bridge with 3 people & a few hand tools...It did take us a few weekends of hard labor, but we are so greatful William is such a hard worker, good learner & strong as he did the bulk of the work right down to calculating how much lumber we would need. With the same come-along used to build the Main Lodge, Mick & William were able to unload & manuver 2, 20 foot, phone poles. Wild Bill would be proud, in fact we heard the owls hooting & took that as a good omen. A+ for William in Building Trades ⚒️ Mickey Castle Tammy Scibran Castle

Wind Farm Developers: In 2023, wind developer Invenergy committed a $2 million donation to Cornell University to establish an eagle rehabilitation program to offset potential impacts to eagles from upstate New York wind farm projects. To offset the estimated deaths of dozens of bald eagles caused by upstate New York wind farms, developer Invenergy committed a nearly $2 million donation to Cornell University in 2023. The funds primarily benefit the Janet L. Swanson Wildlife Hospital to assist with the treatment, rehabilitation, and conservation of bald and golden eagles. The commitment was a negotiated measure during the permitting process for two massive renewable energy developments:Alle-Catt Wind Energy Center: Located across Allegany, Cattaraugus, and Wyoming counties. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation estimated this 31,000-acre project will take the lives of 41 bald eagles over its 30-year operational life.Canisteo Wind Energy Project: Located in Steuben County. State regulators estimated that this project would also result in the deaths of another 41 bald eagles. The massive toll on the local raptor population generated significant pushback from conservationists and local advocates. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation mandated that the developer institute daily eagle carcass searches and ship deceased eagles directly to the agency. To track project documentation and local conservation efforts, you can review the filings via the New York State Department of Public Service or learn more about the broader environmental impact debate through National Wind Watch.Concerned Citizens of Cattaraugus County - Search / Commission FilesMay 24, 2023 — We strenuously to object to the state's decision not only to allow Invenergy (through its Alle Catt Industrial Wind Turbine facility) to slaughter up to 41 Bald...documents.dps.ny.govAlle-Catt Wind Farm expected to take toll on bald eaglesApr 25, 2023 — Credit: By RICK MILLER, Olean Times Herald

This is what we’re fighting for. You might just see a tree, however this sacred tree has been standing for roughly 235 years! That makes it older than the county it is standing in. Let’s keep the ‘Wilds’ in the Western NY Wilds.
*Allegany county was formed in 1806, making 2026 our 220th anniversary, 30 years after the USA became a nation. Yes, this is a well documented Indigenous Trail Tree on state land.

What's occuring:
A proposed large-scale lithium-ion Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) on Hess Road in Allegany County is facing local opposition due to safety, fire risk, and environmental concerns. We do not want the facility, we don't want it to ruin our lands.

How can you help?
