🦌 Elk Calving Season is Here! 🦌

Exciting news from the Elk Country Visitor Center—several elk calves have already been spotted!

Did you know?• Elk calves are typically born from late May through early June.• Newborn calves weigh about 30–40 pounds at birth.• Their white spots help camouflage them from predators and usually fade by the end of summer.• Within 30 minutes of birth, calves can stand and begin nursing.• For the first few days of life, calves instinctively remain hidden and motionless while their mothers forage nearby.

If you're visiting the elk range, remember to enjoy these newborns from a distance and never approach or touch a calf. Their mothers are usually nearby, even if you can't see them.

Stop by the Elk Country Visitor Center and keep your eyes open—you might be lucky enough to spot one of this year's newest additions to Pennsylvania's elk herd! ❤️🦌
