The sun and moon gave us two beautiful views of the Shenandoah River this weekend. ☀️🌙 A special thank-you to Jamie Stribling who shared Friday night’s moon and Sunday morning’s sun photos from sites 35 & 36. And of course, Old Glory looked beautiful flying over the campground this weekend, too. 🇺🇸

Fall is such a lovely time to camp here. The mornings are brisk, the days are warm and sunny, and a campfire feels just right when evening comes. 🍂🔥

To everyone who spent the weekend with us, thank you! It’s been wonderful having y’all at Low Water Bridge Campground.

We wanted to take a moment to follow up on the post we shared Saturday.

Our intention in making that post was simply to communicate that the mishandling or disrespect of the American flag will not be permitted on our property. We use Facebook as one of the ways we communicate with our campers and community, and we truly had no idea the amount of attention that post would receive.

What happened afterward is something we will not soon forget.

Yesterday, our phone rang again and again. We heard from veterans, active-duty service members, and families of those who have served. Some simply called to say thank you. Others shared their stories with us, and we had the privilege of listening.

One conversation in particular will stay with us for a very long time. A veteran told us about his time in the service and shared that he lost both of his legs while serving our country. He told us that although he is no longer able to stand for the flag, he still has the desire to and when he read our post, he felt like he wasn't standing again.

Needless to say, there wasn't a dry eye in our office after we got off the phone.

What began as a simple post about something we will not allow on our property turned into an experience that reminded us of the people behind the flag—the sacrifices made, the families who have endured those sacrifices, and the men and women who carry those experiences with them for the rest of their lives.

What a privilege it has been to speak with some of you. Thank you for trusting us with your stories.

And for those who have asked about the American flag that was found on the ground Saturday—we want you to know that it has a new, safe home 🇺🇸

That flag is now flying proudly at Low Water Bridge Campground, in sight of every person who enters our property. The flag that we picked up off the ground will not be discarded or forgotten. It will continue to fly here with the respect we believe it deserves.

To every veteran, active-duty service member, military family, and family who has lost someone in service to this country: thank you. Your service and sacrifice are not forgotten here.

We support our troops.
We support our flag.
In God We Trust. 🇺🇸

We've also read many of the comments, and to those who have left thoughtful, positive, and uplifting words—thank you. There is already enough anger and division in this world. We choose gratitude, respect, and kindness.

And to those who may not share our views or who expressed a different perspective in the comments, please know that you are welcome here, too. You don't have to agree with us on everything to be treated with kindness and respect at Low Water Bridge Campground.

We love this property and everything it represents to us. It's a beautiful place, and above all, we want it to be a place of peace—a place where families and friends can come together, enjoy the river, make memories, and leave the worries of the world behind for a little while.

We may not always agree, but we can always choose to treat one another with respect.

At the end of the day, we'll simply say this:
We know good wins in the end. Evil doesn't.

God bless our veterans, God bless our troops, and God bless America. 🇺🇸

What happened this evening at Low Water Bridge Campground struck a nerve, and I feel it is necessary to share.

First and foremost, we respect everyone who walks through the doors of our campground office, and we recognize that every person has the right to their own opinions and beliefs. However, what occurred at our campground today crossed a very serious line.

While in the office, I noticed an American flag being waved upside down at a nearby campsite. I walked outside to get a better look and saw that the flag had been discarded on the ground, as shown in the pictures.

At first, we thought it might be a towel that someone had tossed down after getting out of the river—but we were wrong. Concerned and curious, I approached the campsite and picked the flag up off the ground. After seeing how it had been intentionally hung upside down, I addressed the guests.

One of them told me, “That’s mine,” to which I responded, “It’s mine now.” And I walked away.

Afterward, we were met with hateful and aggressive behavior. Racial slurs were directed at us, we were threatened with having the Sheriff’s Office called, and one individual claimed to be actively serving in the United States Air Force and stationed at Quantico. I responded, “Then you, of all people, should know better.”

They also threatened to leave us bad reviews. Honestly, a bad review is nothing compared to what so many others have sacrificed—and even lost—while fighting for the flag they had disrespected and discarded on the ground.

Regardless of anyone’s political views, the American flag deserves to be treated with respect—not discarded on the ground like a piece of trash. No disagreement ever excuses racial slurs, threats, or hateful conduct.

Low Water Bridge Campground is private property and a family-oriented business. We will not tolerate racism, harassment, disrespectful conduct, or behavior intended to create conflict and disturb our guests.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but while visiting our campground, respectful behavior is required. If that is too much to ask, then Low Water Bridge Campground is not the place for you. 🇺🇸

To everyone who has served or is currently serving, to the families who have lost a service member, and to the spouses and loved ones who stand beside those serving in our Armed Forces—we thank you, honor you, and are deeply grateful for your service and sacrifice. 🇺🇸 @

We love our campers! One of the best parts about owning a campground is the people you get to meet along the way.

This week, we had the pleasure of meeting harleythetrailhog and crew as they make their way along the Appalachian Trail. And while they were here, they hit an incredible milestone -- 1,000 MILES 🌄👢🎉

What an accomplishment! We're so glad Low Water Bridge Campground got to be part of their journey. Congratulations, guys -- here's to the next 1,000 miles!

Give these guys a like and follow them on their journey!

Happy trails!!🐾💚

FYI Campers!

With the heat and humidity building through the rest of the week, the Shenandoah National Park will be a great place to find at least some relief with temperatures often running 10-15 degrees cooler than the surrounding valleys.

Reminder! Entrance to the park is free Friday through Sunday (July 3–5) for Independence Day Weekend.
