Labor Day Weekend Fun at Carefree!
Get ready for a full weekend of food, music, games, tournaments, and Carefree fun! Here’s what’s happening:
Saturday, Sept. 5: The fun starts at 10:30 a.m. with sign-in for the Carefree Kids Putters Tournament. This free-entry event is for ages 17 and under. Sign up in the Activities folder in the office, then get ready to play beginning at 11:00 a.m.!
Saturday, Sept. 5: Adults, it’s your turn to putt! Carefree Putters Adult Tournament sign-in begins at 12:30 p.m., with play starting at 1:00 p.m. This event is for ages 18 and older, and members and guests are welcome. The cost is $10 per team of two, with team scores totaled together. Sign up and pay at the Welcome Center by Sept. 4.
Saturday, Sept. 5: Come hungry! The Hamburger Stand will be serving at the Bocce Ball courts from 12:00–1:30 p.m. Enjoy great hamburgers for only $5 — your last chance for grilled hamburgers this season. We still need volunteers to help man the stand; without enough help, we may need to cancel.
Saturday, Sept. 5: Don’t miss the Loaded Baked Potato Bar from 4:30–6:00 p.m.! Tickets are only $8. Purchase your tickets at the Welcome Center by the end of the day Friday, Sept. 4, to guarantee a potato loaded with your choice of favorite toppings. A only a small number of limited tickets will be available at the door. Still looking for 2 more volunteers to help, sign up in the Activity Folder in the office.
Saturday, Sept. 5: Try your luck at the last Meat Raffle of the season at the Activity Building! Raffle tickets will be sold from 6:00 p.m. until the band’s first break. Tickets are 5 for $5 or 12 for $10.
Saturday, Sept. 5: Stick around for Music in the Bandshell from 6:00–9:00 p.m. Artisan is playing, so bring your friends and enjoy a great evening of music!
Sunday, Sept. 6: Start your Sunday with a special 10:00 a.m. music worship service at the Bandshell. Many of our own members will be sharing their talents for an inspirational morning together.
Sunday, Sept. 6: Lunch is on at the Bocce Ball courts! The Hot Dog & Brat Stand will be serving from 12:00–1:30 p.m. Brats are $4 and hot dogs are $3 — your last chance for grilled hot dogs and brats this season. Volunteers are still needed to man the stand; without enough help, we may need to cancel.
Sunday, Sept. 6: Ready for some friendly competition? The Bean Bag Tournament begins at 1:00 p.m., with registration starting at 12:30 p.m. Players must be 18 or older. Entry is $3, members and guests are invited, partners will be chosen by random draw, and cash prizes will be awarded to the winners!
Sunday, Sept. 6: Sunday ends with 18+ Bingo at 7:00 p.m. at the activity building! Doors open at 6:15 p.m., and players must be seated and ready to play by 7:00 p.m. A 10-game package is $10. Bring your own dauber or purchase one for $2. New addition: there will be a “500” board — buy a square for $5 with five $100 winners, provided the board sells out.
Monday, Sept. 7: Start Labor Day with a delicious French Toast Breakfast served from 9:00–10:30 a.m. Tickets are on sale at the office: $10 for adults and $5 for kids 5 and under. Breakfast includes French toast, potatoes, sausage, fruit, milk, juice, and coffee. Bloody Marys and screwdrivers will be available for a donation, so bring some extra cash to enjoy a festive beverage! Thank you to Lucy and crew for always making this a breakfast to look forward to.
Monday, Sept. 7: At 1:00 p.m., gather at the Activity Building for the Carefree 45th Anniversary Time Capsule Items Reveal and Anniversary Cake & Ice Cream Social. Come revisit the treasures recovered from the previous time capsule and find out what will be buried in this year’s capsule. We will be burying this year’s capsule later this fall. Stay for cake, ice cream, memories, and celebration!
Volunteers are extremely needed to make this weekend grill stands happen! We still need help for Saturday’s Hamburger Stand and Sunday’s Hot Dog & Brat Stand. If you can lend a hand, please sign up and help make the weekend a success. Sign up in the Activity Folder in the office. Thank you!

This week brings Tuesday W**e Tasting; Wednesday Couples Golf season-ending golf day, with the course closed from 12:45–4:00 p.m. and a banquet to follow; a Wednesday boardroom meeting for anyone interested in helping plan the AZ Carefree Winter Gathering; Thursday 7:00 p.m. Singo, the last scheduled Singo of the year; Friday Board Working Session, Bunco, and the sold-out GlowBall Tournament; Saturday Monthly Board Meeting and Soup Cook-Off; and Sunday Vikings/Packers watch party.

Heads up, BBQ fans! Get ready for a brand-new BBQ Rib Cook-Off on Saturday, Sept. 19 at the Activity Building. Dave Bethke is coordinating the event and is looking for cooks who are ready to fire up the grill, show off their BBQ skills, and compete for bragging rights! Call Dave at 763-258-2507 if you are interested in cooking or have any questions. Want to taste and vote? Tickets are 5 for $10, and each ticket gets you one rib sample. Come hungry, enjoy the fun, and vote for your favorite ribs!
