Plaskett Fire Update

The Plaskett Fire, which began on the morning of August 26, is now estimated at 29,000 acres and 61% contained. The fire has remained on the ridges surrounding Treebones, and we are incredibly grateful to share that Treebones remains safe, as do the homes of many of our neighbors. 🙏

Our heartfelt thanks go to Big Sur Fire, the mutual aid crews, hand crews, air support teams, and all of the agencies working tirelessly to protect this resilient community. We are humbled by your dedication and courage.

Treebones remains within the evacuation zone and is currently closed. As fire crews begin wrapping up operations along the coast, we are hopeful to reopen on September 18, pending the official reopening of Highway 1.

In the meantime, our team is looking forward to washing away the ash, refreshing the rooms, preparing the grounds, and welcoming our beloved guests back to this special place we all love.

We are incredibly humbled and deeply grateful for the extraordinary dedication, courage, and resources being devoted to protecting Big Sur.

Our heartfelt thanks go to the firefighters, air support teams, hand crews, and every agency working tirelessly on both the Plaskett Fire on the South Coast, surrounding Treebones, and the Timber Fire on the northern end of Big Sur. Your commitment means more than words can express.

Treebones remains safe, with extensive fire clearance and resources on site. Out of an abundance of caution, we are temporarily closed and are hopeful to reopen within the next few weeks.

When it is safe to do so, we look forward to welcoming you back to this special place we all love - and will greatly appreciate your patronage at that time. Until then, please keep our beloved coastline, along with the homes, businesses, first responders, and communities throughout Big Sur, in your thoughts and prayers

The Plaskett Fire started Wednesday morning, August 26, approximately three miles from Treebones. At this time, we are not in immediate danger.

Big Sur Fire responded quickly, alongside mutual-aid crews and air support. We are deeply grateful for their continued efforts to protect our neighbor’s homes, and community.

Treebones is currently located within an evacuation warning zone. We are closed and are contacting all guests with existing reservations through Thursday, September 3. We remain hopeful for favorable conditions and look forward to reopening as soon as it is safe to do so.

In the meantime, our team is preparing food for the firefighters today. We are grateful for the opportunity to support their efforts in any way we can.

The Timber Fire is burning in the Los Padres National Forest near Partington Ridge, north of Treebones, and has grown to approximately 7,500 acres and 29% contained. Huge thank you to the Firefighters, emergency personnel, and everyone who has worked tirelessly to keep our community safe. 🙏

Conditions at Treebones are currently favorable, with good air quality thanks in part to the strong marine layer. Our location also typically benefits from a northwest coastal breeze, which can help keep smoke away from the property. As with any active wildfire, conditions can change, and we are closely monitoring the fire, road conditions, and air quality.

🔥 TIMBER FIRE UPDATE (updated 8/12, 11:30pm)— HWY 1 CLOSED IN NORTHERN BIG SUR SURROUNDING THE FIRE AND EVACUATION ZONES — Treebones is accessible via HWY SOUTH through Cambria
The Timber Fire is burning in the Los Padres National Forest near Partington Ridge, north of Treebones, and has grown to approximately 4,000 acres and 7% contained.

Our thoughts are with our neighbors, friends, and fellow businesses to the north who are directly impacted by the fire and evacuation activity. We are so grateful to all the firefighters including Big Sur Fire and our fierce locals for their continuous efforts to contain this fire and protect the precious homes in our community.

Treebones is well south of the active fire area thankfully and is not currently under any evacuation order or warning. Our property remains open and fully accessible.

Conditions at Treebones are currently favorable, with fair to good air quality thanks in part to the strong marine layer. Our location also typically benefits from a northwest coastal breeze, which can help keep smoke away from the property. As with any active wildfire, conditions can change, and we are closely monitoring the fire, road conditions, and air quality.

We ask travelers to avoid unnecessary travel into northern Big Sur, including sightseeing or traveling toward areas affected by the fire. Keeping traffic down allows residents to evacuate safely and gives emergency crews the space they need to work. There are plenty of beautiful hikes and beaches to enjoy on the southern end of Big Sur just a short drive from Treebones.

For guests traveling to Treebones: Highway 1 is currently to the south through Cambria.
