๐บ๐ธ The History about the American Flag we have at the Elks park ๐บ๐ธ:
Ever wondered about the history of the massive U.S. flag we proudly hang? It isn't just bigโit is a living piece of World War II history right here in the Eastern Sierra! โ๏ธ
This historic artifact was secured for our lodge by the legendary California State Senator Charles Brown, who represented Inyo and Mono counties for over two decades.
Following WWII, Senator Brown used his government connections to acquire this massive, authentic U.S. Navy ship ensign. Built from heavy-duty fabric to withstand brutal open-ocean gales, this very flag once flew proudly on the mast of an American military vessel during the war.
As Elks, we were the original pioneers of Flag Day, making it our ultimate honor to protect this artifact. Today, we fly it to connect our community to the Greatest Generation, honoring the sailors who fought at sea and the local leaders who built our valley. โค๏ธ
