The Fall migration of the monarch butterflies is in full swing in the Texas Hill Country!!!! The super monarchs!!!!One of my favorite times of the year!!!
In the Spring, the monarchs are born in the southern most part of Mexico. Their parents aren’t there to tell them what to do. They just know they are supposed to head north.
The monarchs of the Spring migration are much smaller butterflies. They fly as hard as they can north, lay their eggs and die. Their babies eclose and keep heading north. It takes multiple generations for them to get to Canada and Maine.
In September, the Super Monarchs are born. They are much bigger, stronger butterflies. Each butterfly can fly up to 3000 miles!! One butterfly is born in Canada, and will fly all the way to the southern most part of Mexico.
That is what we are seeing right now. It’s an absolute privilege to be able to see them!
It truly is quite something!!!
