Our 1st Round Exhibition continues with "Generations," and "Wool and Water."
"Generations" is an exhibit of two local artists, Matt Burnett and the late Fred Burns--curated by Hallie Bond--and features paintings, photographs and guideboats from the two multifaceted Long Lake artists, exploring how each artist engages with and contributes to the regional culture of the Adirondacks.
Matt Burnett, a professional artist and guide, has a long history with guideboats going back to his childhood in the William C. Whitney Wilderness area. He has restored several and is one of the few Adirondack Guides still using them with his clients.
Fred Burns, a self-taught painter and guideboat builder, turned to guideboat building in his seventies and made over a dozen before his death in 1989. The exhibition highlights the processes, overlapping histories, and other connections between the two resourceful artists, celebrating the influences of history and including Burnett's current efforts with the Northern Forest Explorers.
"Wool and Water," is a project by Michale Glennon, Ph.D., that blends fiber art with scientific data to create visual representations of changing water conditions in the Adirondacks and Lake Champlain Basin. Dr. Glennon is an ecologist who wants her work to represent “the inspiration and lessons found in nature.”
