Thank you so much to everyone who joined us Thursday evening for the opening reception of our new exhibition, ‘Living with AIDS’ from photographer Sal Lopes.

It was truly so meaningful to come together and celebrate this important body of work— to remember, mourn, honor, and love all the lives lost during the AIDS crisis here in Boston, and throughout the country.

If you weren’t able to join us for the opening, we encourage you to come to the Artist Talk which will take place on Saturday, June 27th from 12-2PM. Lopes will talk broadly about his career as a platinum printer and photographer before speaking about making ‘Living with AIDS’.

Join us tonight from 6-8PM in celebrating the opening of ‘Living with AIDS’, an important and beautiful body of work from local photographer Sal Lopes.

In Living with AIDS, Lopes explores how the city of Boston was affected by the AIDS Crisis. From 1988 to 1992, Lopes traced three interconnected stories— the NAMES Project AIDS Quilt and its display in both Boston and Washington D.C.; the Buddy Program, run by the AIDS Action Committee of Massachusetts, which offered volunteer support to those living with AIDS; and the Boyce family, whose adopted child Brianna was living with AIDS.

After spending the 1980s documenting Vietnam War veterans and the Vietnam Memorial in Washington D.C., Lopes was touched by the grief and mourning of those who had lost their lives or loved ones to AIDS. He began his documentation first with the AIDS quilt, then turned his lens to community efforts like the Buddy Program, and familial relationships with the Boyce’s.

Opening during Boston Pride weekend, this exhibition offers a moment to reflect, honor those whose lives were lost during the epidemic, and to uplift those living with AIDS today.

It’s installation week here in Boston, and the start of Pride Month!

We’re currently working on mounting our next exhibition, Living with AIDS, an important and beautiful body of work from local photographer Sal Lopes.

In Living with AIDS, Lopes explores how the city of Boston was affected by the AIDS Crisis. From 1988 to 1992, Lopes traced three interconnected stories— the NAMES Project AIDS Quilt and its display in both Boston and Washington D.C.; the Buddy Program, run by the AIDS Action Committee of Massachusetts, which offered volunteer support to those living with AIDS; and the Boyce family, whose adopted child Brianna was living with AIDS.

Closing soon— this marks the last weekend to see Rania Matar’s powerful solo exhibition Where Do I Go? لوين روح

With this work, Matar explores how Lebanon its people have reckoned with the legacy of the nation’s past, they also confronted the struggles of the present— economic instability, lingering reminders of the pandemic, undue violence across the region, and for many, the enduring pain of the Beirut Port Explosion.

Through it all, Matar has found hope and inspiration in Lebanon’s young women. Her arresting portraits affirm the presence, strength, and resilience of her subjects. Whether situated in an abandoned building or within the country’s natural landscape, history, place, and identity become one in her images. The women’s presence exudes out of the frame, claiming space— asking their audience to look at them, and to answer Where Do I Go?

Rania Matar’s powerful solo exhibition opened on March 26th with the largest reception the gallery has seen since we opened in 2016. It was a truly special evening, thank you to all who joined us to support Rania and this body of work. If you missed out, Rania will be giving an Artist Talk on Wednesday, May 20th from 5-7PM.

Where Do I Go? لوين روح Is being mounted in collaboration with Robert Klein Gallery who will be opening a companion to our exhibition in a new pop up space in the South End. Visit us tomorrow Saturday, May 9th from 3-7PM at RKG x Sea-Dar: The Project Space (580 Harrison Ave. 4F) for the opening reception. This will be an afternoon you don’t want to miss!

Did you know we have a small exhibition space in the Park Plaza Hotel? On view now are seven prints from local photographer Mav Fernandez’ series Between Them which explores sibling relationships and the bonds, shared spaces, and complex social rituals that bind family together.

On Saturday, May 30th from 12-2PM join us to see this work and to learn more about Mav and his practice multi-layered and sensitive approach to photography.

Mav Fernandez is a Dominican photographer whose artistic practice centers on photography as a means of reflection, connection, and understanding. Mav is interested in how images can hold emotional truth, and how they help us see ourselves and others more clearly.

Across all of his work, his practice is guided by understanding, care, and preservation. Whether he’s photographing family, community, or himself, his work is always an act of love. A way of preserving the people and moments that shape our shared humanity.
