Army Corps of Engineers welcomes you to John H. Kerr Dam & Reservoir (also know as Buggs Island Lake). Kerr is a flood damage reduction reservoir and lake levels are subject to seasonal and/or periodic fluctuations. The normal "summer pool" elevation is 300 feet above mean sea level. The Corps manages the lake and more than 55,000 acres of public land around the reservoir. This 50,000 acre lake extend 39 miles up the Roanoke River along 800 miles of wooded, cove-studded shoreline and it is yours to enjoy whther you like to fish, camp, swim, go boating, or just relax by enjoying its scenic beauty.

Yesterday we celebrated the USACE volunteers who help John H. Kerr Dam and Reservoir with visitor assistance and keeping the pollinator garden, recreation areas and trails looking their best. We can't do all the work without volunteers! Thank you to each and everyone of you who volunteer your time and energy.

Heading out on the water for Labor Day weekend?
Water levels remain low at several lakes in NC and VA with Kerr being almost 9 feet below normal pool. Many boat ramps are closed while others are down to 1 lane.

With high holiday traffic, shallow hazards like sandbars and submerged stumps raise the risk of sudden groundings and collisions. Protect yourself and your crew: wear your life jacket every time you're on the water!
