Army Corps of Engineers welcomes you to John H. Kerr Dam & Reservoir (also know as Buggs Island Lake). Kerr is a flood damage reduction reservoir and lake levels are subject to seasonal and/or periodic fluctuations. The normal "summer pool" elevation is 300 feet above mean sea level. The Corps manages the lake and more than 55,000 acres of public land around the reservoir. This 50,000 acre lake ex

tend 39 miles up the Roanoke River along 800 miles of wooded, cove-studded shoreline and it is yours to enjoy whther you like to fish, camp, swim, go boating, or just relax by enjoying its scenic beauty.

Swimming in open water (lakes, rivers, etc.) is more difficult than in a pool. You can get exhausted in a short amount of time and get into trouble due to waves, current, lack of experience, or from overestimating your abilities. Even strong swimmers can drown so !

To honor Andy, please wear a life jacket when boating to increase your chances of surviving carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. Boaters should use a marine CO detector, seat children in the forward-most seating on a boat, avoid idling and exposure to emissions from other boats, and always maintain fresh air circulation.
