Morning, folks! 👋

If you've visited our disc golf course recently, you may have noticed a new addition!

Meet our new blue baskets! These baskets have been added to every fairway and are positioned closer to the tee pads, providing a shorter, more beginner-friendly option for those who are new to disc golf or looking to improve their game.

This exciting addition wouldn't have been possible without Faber Analytics, who generously donated the baskets and helped install them throughout the course. We greatly appreciate their generosity and continued support of our disc golf course!

Looking ahead, we'll also be updating our disc golf course map this winter to include the new basket locations.

More information about our disc golf course can be found online athttps://gfp.sd.gov/userdocs/big-sioux-disc-golf.pdf

Thanks again to Faber Analytics, and happy disc golfing! 🥏

Good afternoon folks,

All good things must come to an end…

Today we closed down the comfort station facility. The dump station will be fully open until this Sunday at 6pm. After that, will be turning the water hydrants off at the dump station. Vault toilets are open year-round. The park also has a frost free hydrant located across the road from campsite 40E that is on year-round.

But don’t let these closures fool you, the park is still open year-round and we do offer campsite and cabin rentals in the wintertime.

Thanks again for another great camping season!

Good evening everyone!

Tomorrow (Saturday, October 24th) is Trick or Treat Trails! The event goes from 3pm - 6:30pm. Below are some common questions and answers we commonly get about the event.

1.) Is this a kid-friendly event? Yes, this is a very kid-friendly event.

2.) Are bags provided? Yes, bags are provided at the Big Sioux station located near the picnic shelter.

3.) How long is the route? Just shy of one mile.

4.) Will the event happen if it rains? Yes, forecast shows a slight chance of rain. Don't forget that rain jacket!

5.) How many stations will there be this year? 16 business/organization stations in the campground, 1 at the picnic shelter and 3 near the picnic shelter - 20 total! Plus usually a few campers hand out candy to the kids in the campground. :)

6.) Do we need a park sticker of our vehicle? Yep, any vehicle comes into the park does need a park sticker. More information can be found online at https://gfp.sd.gov/pel/

7.) Where does the event start? Starts at the picnic shelter. We have a large mowed parking lot set up - though we do encourage folks to carpool or walk in to help save parking space.

8.) Can I use a stroller at the event? Yes, we do have a very small grassy section of trail (about 500 feet). The route is very flat.

9.) Can I bring a dog? YES! Dogs are welcome but need to be on a leash.

10.) Where is Big Sioux Recreation Area located at? Park address is 410 West Park Street, Brandon, SD 57005

And that is our top 10 questions and answers! Phew! :)

We’re feeling especially grateful today! 🌿

Blake is currently working toward his Eagle Scout rank, and last fall, he reached out to our park to see if there were any projects he could take on to benefit the park and its visitors.

After some brainstorming, we came up with a fun idea: a face cutout photo board! 🎃📸 This new addition will be used at our upcoming Trick or Treat Trails event, as well as our annual Homesteader Day event at Beaver Creek Nature Area, giving visitors a fun way to make memories and enjoy their time at the park.

We’re incredibly thankful for Blake’s initiative, creativity, and willingness to give back to the community. Projects like this help make our park events even more enjoyable for visitors of all ages!

Thank you, Blake, for choosing Beaver Creek Nature Area for your Eagle Scout project! 🦅💚
