If you're staying at Squatch Watch, build in an afternoon for the wineries and breweries scattered around Hochatown. Most are small, family-run, and nowhere near as crowded as the lake in August. Come back for a swim in the pond and let dinner happen on the deck. Locals know this is the better way to do a Broken Bow weekend.

August evenings at Squatch Watch Lodge move slowly on purpose. Cast a line into the pond before dinner, then soak in the hot tub while the sun drops behind the trees. Two king bedrooms mean this one works for couples or a small crew of four. The fire pit gets lit most nights, no convincing required.

Summer mornings in the Ozarks are cooler than you'd expect. You're in the trees, everything is green, and the only sounds are birds and whatever's brewing in the kitchen. The vaulted ceilings and kitchen island make even a slow breakfast feel like something.

By afternoon, you're deciding between Table Rock Lake and just staying here.

"We unplugged completely and it was exactly what we needed." "The hot tub every night was the best part." "We're already looking at fall dates." That last one is our favorite. Mountain Hideaway, Sweet Dreams, and Unplugged each sleep two, have their own private hot tub and whirlpool bath, and sit in the Ozark woods 5 minutes from Branson Landing.
