Thanks to Don and Tom for riding up from Gainesville, Georgia, on a couple of beautiful BMW motorcycles to stay with us and experience The Corkscrew, a scenic Appalachian Backroads route that passes right through Breaks, Virginia, and by our motel. Although they had a tire issue along the way, we were able to help them plug it and get back on the road to Pikeville for a new rear tire. Great meeting you guys, and we hope to see y'all again soon!

We’re incredibly grateful to be completely sold out this week, though we never like having to turn guests away. To help accommodate more visitors in the future, development is beginning on our new campground and music festival venue located on our property across the street. We’ve partnered with Belcher Excavation LLC to clear the site and prepare it for the next phase. The project will feature RV sites, tent camping, cabins, and yurts, creating more space for guests to enjoy everything this beautiful area has to offer. We’re excited about what’s ahead and can’t wait to share more details as the project takes shape. Stay tuned!

We'd like to thank Bj Addis and his wife of Hiawassee, Georgia, for staying with us last night and unloading the General Lee this morning so everyone could enjoy a closer look and grab a few photos. The car attracted plenty of attention, with many of our neighbors and guests stopping by to admire it and take pictures of their own. B.J. was in the area attending a car show in Pikeville yesterday, and we're grateful he took the time to share this iconic car with us and our community. For me personally, seeing the General Lee brought back a lot of great childhood memories from watching The Dukes of Hazzard every Friday night.

The General Lee will be here tomorrow morning! Come by and grab some photos if you'd like to see it in person.

This weekend, we welcomed Donald and Kathy McCoy, owners of the Hatfield McCoy Resort Inn. After seeing us on Facebook, they stayed with us for a couple of nights, toured our property, and spent time getting to know us. Donald and Kathy have owned their business in Matewan, West Virginia, for 32 years. They offer lodging, great food at Wingo's Grill, guided tours, and easy access to the Hatfield-McCoy ATV trail systems. If you're planning a trip to southern West Virginia, we encourage you to check them out! It was a pleasure getting to know fellow business owners who share our passion for hospitality and community. We wish them all the best and continued success for many years to come!

This morning, a gentleman pulled in on his Harley with a special reason for visiting. He told me he was a retired Virginia State Police officer and had stayed here during the Coal Strike of 1989. He remembered the parking lot being full of "Blue and Greys" as he put it, and shared a few memories from that time. I showed him a photo that Sue Rose, the owner back then, had sent me of Virginia State Police cars filling our parking lot. He smiled and immediately remembered it. Then he mentioned how the officers would cool off in the pool after long shifts, so I showed him an old photo of the pool as well. It was an honor to hear his stories and see him reconnect with a place that brought back memories from a chapter of Southwest Virginia history he lived through firsthand. We appreciate his service, and the service of all the men and women in law enforcement who have served our communities over the years. Thank you for stopping by and sharing your story with us. Some memories never leave a place. They just wait for the right person to come back and tell them.

We'd like to give a big thank you to the riders from Stinger Harley-Davidson H.O.G. Chapter #3609 near Cleveland, Ohio, who stayed with us last night! They were on their way home from a 7-day round-trip adventure to Maggie Valley / Cherokee, North Carolina. What a wonderful group of people! We truly enjoyed having them here and wish them safe travels on the rest of their ride home.

Big shoutout to Chuck and Leslie with "Maggie Valley Rides" for staying a couple of nights with us while carving through these beautiful Appalachian backroads aboard one of the sharpest Harleys I’ve ever laid eyes on. Hearing that they’ve been riding together for 37 years is truly something special. That kind of road-tested love and adventure is rare and inspiring. It was an absolute pleasure meeting y’all and thanks for choosing us as your place to rest and recharge after a long day chasing mountain curves.
