Fall, so far. Carla Lalli joined us in Brooklyn for tea, cake, tea leaf readings with Chinatown Soup and tarot readings from Julia Popescu to launch her new book.

In Kyoto, we upcycled kimonos destined for disposal. The old became the new through this wonderful workshop by Kimono Curation & Experience RURIKO.

In Athens, we danced away our Sunset Series parties with Satori, blending live keys and flute with electronic beats and Balkan influences.

To celebrate Sydney Contemporary, artist jasonphuu and Flack Studio’s Samantha Barrow traversed Ace Sydney, tour group in tow, discussing the themes and stories behind Jason’s art found across the hotel.

Canadian poet Anne Carson was in her kitchen in Iceland earlier this month, paging through the London Review of Books, when she learned she had received the Nobel Prize in Literature. Coincidentally, Anne appears in “Travellers in Residence,” a new little book with writings about hotels selected by the LRB.

Across his training in architecture, interest in ecology and multimedia art practice, artist and academic Curry J. Hackett connects his work to Black relationships with plants, ecologies and landscapes, influenced by his upbringing in rural Virginia.

Curry continued this exploration during his residency at Ace Hotel Brooklyn, which culminated in the exhibition «It Can Happen…Still Time to Try,» a collaboration with J.t. Roane and Jona Alexander. The trio used the land reform writings of poet and social activist June Jordan as the connective tissue for their respective installations in the show, which is on view through the end of the month.

Working across drawing, installation, painting, performance, film and children’s books, jasonphuu’s influences are as varied as his mediums, compiling inspiration from the likes of comics, cartoons, funny jokes, family history and Chan Buddhist imagery.

Back in 2022, Jason was our first overnighter at Ace Hotel Sydney, inking his work “navigating the ways of the heart over the mountains and through the seas” across the 17 guest floors. Recently, he returned to the hotel to lead a scavenger hunt-style tour of the multi-floor artwork. We caught up with him about underwear, gifts for strangers and the Billy Connolly wisdom he packs by. Read now on Room with a View.

Our friends at the London Review of Books are in town for autumn in New York, and they’re staying with us for a week in Brooklyn.
