And just like that, the waiting is over.
For 40-something weeks, you've known this little person from the inside.
You've felt every kick, every stretch, every tiny hiccup. You've wondered what their face would look like, whose features they'd have, and what it would feel like to finally hold them in your arms.
And then, suddenly, there they are.
The little person you've known so intimately, yet are meeting for the very first time.
The baby who has been part of you for all these months is finally here, and a whole new kind of getting to know each other begins.
And in the middle of it all, there's this moment.
Your baby on your chest. Your husband leaning in for a kiss. The anticipation, the intensity, the work of bringing this little life into the world giving way to the sweetest kind of peace.
For a moment, everything else fades into the background.
Your family has grown by one, but somehow, your capacity to love has grown by a whole lot more.
And can we tell you a little secret? This is our favorite part, too.
As doulas, we get to walk alongside families through the preparation, the uncertainty, the hard work, and the incredible intensity of birth. But there's nothing quite like standing quietly in the background, watching two people meet the little person who just changed their whole world.
No more coaching. No more counting contractions. Just a new family soaking in a moment they'll never get back.
And whatever the journey looked like getting here, there's something about finally holding the person you've been waiting so long to meet that makes this moment worth everything.
We may be there to support the birth, but getting to witness the love that follows? That's the part we'll never get tired of.
