Nobody talks about what it actually feels like to hand your home over to strangers.
The first time, I stood at the door before I left and just… looked around.
The candles I’d picked out. The blankets folded just so. The little things I’d added because I thought someone would notice them.
And then I handed over the keys — to people I’d never met — and I drove away hoping they’d treat it like I did.
Not like a rental.
Like a home.
Here’s what I didn’t expect: most of them do.
The notes guests leave. The messages saying they didn’t want to check out. The families who’ve come back three times now.
Every time I walk back in after a stay, I look for signs of life. A throw pillow moved. A wine glass rinsed and left on the counter.
It tells me someone was comfortable here. Really comfortable.
That’s all I ever wanted.
If you’ve ever stayed somewhere and genuinely felt at home — the host noticed. I promise you, they noticed.
