Memories Made Here
1948-2026

When local artist Ron Sweeney contacted Ernest Copeland about painting
a barn sign on his property, he was on board. Being a senior citizen and
traveling for employment for thirty years, he saw numerous barns painted
with advertisements of national company products and tourist
attractions.
Wall Dogs or barn lizards, as they were referred to from 1890 through
the 1940s, were very commonly seen painting on rural structures.
The “canvas” has seen many wake-ups for eighty plus years. Copeland can
remember seeing the previous property owners, Elija and Polly Amonette
relaxing on their front porch across the road from the barn.
Ron had ideas for the front, one side, and roof for the barn paintings.
Past and present memories inspired Copeland to suggest a Star Point
painting for the remaining side.
Copeland started his working career washing dishes alongside his mother
at Star Point Resort in the early sixties. The pay was fifty cents per
hour! He remains active there giving advice and does a little work for
the owners, Nathan and Michelle Copeland. How fitting to reserve one
side of the barn to his memories of Star Point Resort’s owners,
employees, and customers! MEMORIES MADE HERE!
