There are some pretty good reasons not to put the camping gear away after Labor Day.

September brings a different pace to western Maine. Spend the day taking in the view from Height of Land, head out for a hike on Tumbledown, then make your way back to camp for an evening around the fire.

And sometimes, the best view of the day is waiting right here when you get back.

With several weeks of our camping season still ahead, September is a pretty great time to see what this part of Maine has to offer.

Sometimes the best Coos Canyon stories aren't ours to tell.

Alicia and her family recently shared these photos from their stay, and we couldn't help but smile going through them.

From time at the canyon and swimming in the Swift River to evenings around the campfire and stays in both Camper Cabin 22 and the Stargazer Dome, they packed a lot of memories into their time with us.

But our favorite part is simply seeing a family enjoying time together and knowing Coos Canyon got to be a small part of it.

Some views you hike for. Some you can drive right up to. And others you come across while exploring the back roads and trails of western Maine.

The trail to Angel Falls, the mountaintop views from Quill Hill, and White Cap Mountain are three very different ways to get out and explore — each with a pretty great reward along the way.

September is a great time to see where the road, trail or path takes you, with more than six weeks of our camping season still ahead.

September has arrived at Coos Canyon. 🍂

The days are getting a little shorter, the evenings a little cooler, and another beautiful stretch of the camping season is ahead of us here in western Maine.

From days along the Swift River to hiking, ATV riding and evenings around the campfire, September has a pace all its own.

We have just over six weeks left in our camping season, with plenty of opportunities to plan a September stay before we wrap things up after Columbus Day weekend on October 12.

And for anyone still hoping to sneak away for Labor Day, we do have a few two-night gaps between reservations, along with our Stargazer Dome.

Late summer isn’t over at Coos Canyon. ☀️

Yes, there’s still gold in the Swift River. 👀✨

There’s something pretty exciting about swirling a pan, working through the gravel and suddenly seeing that unmistakable flash of gold.

Gold panning has been part of the story of this area for generations—and it’s still one of those simple Maine adventures that can turn into a pretty memorable afternoon.
