Did you know we have two wheelchair accessible vacation rentals. One in the upper midwest and one in Costa Rica.
Midwest:
Namakagon Landing is on Lake Namakagon in Cable, WI. It has 3+ bedrooms, a roll-in shower and comfort height toilet with grab bars in one of two bathrooms, is all on one level, has an attached, heated garage (nice for cozy weather gatherings), an adjustable, king size bed and a wheelchair accessible pontoon boat with level boardwalk to the lake and dock. It sleeps up to 11 so is great for family gatherings or groups of friends. (One of our guests has been returning with her family and grandchildren for 11 years!)
You can find more information and/or make a reservation for Namakagon Landing on our property manager's website. We do have a few openings in August and October of this year but you can also plan ahead for next year. Many of our guests return every year so book early.

Costa Rica:
Our other wheelchair accessible property, Casa Elios, is in Playa Hermosa, Santa Teresa, Costa Rica. This is where we spend out winters so we are very familiar with the area. It is available May through November weekly, monthly, and mid-term (up to 7 months if you need a warm place to telework or get away for awhile). It, too, is all on one level, has a large roll-in shower, comfort height toilet with grab-bars, large, accessible deck and pool area (with Hoyer-type sling lift), a ramp next to the parking space for easy access to the house/outdoor common areas and pool, and an adjustable king size bed in the master bedroom (two twin beds with their own controls). Casa Elios sleeps up to 5.
We recommend Costa Rica for adventurous wheelchair travelers or with a companion/assistant. My husband uses a manual chair and Rio Mobility Firefly when we are there. We have traveled to and lived in Costa Rica since 2011. We can help you navigate travel to Playa Hermosa and its accessible destinations and activities or to other destinations in Costa Rica that are good for wheelchair travelers. If you can we recommend spending time at both our beautiful beach destination for warmth and amazing sunsets and then some time in the cloud forest for its diverse birds and wildlife, magical rainforests, volcanoes and waterfalls. But if warmth and relaxation are what you are looking for, then our beach destination is what we recommend.
May through November is the Green Season in Costa Rica so everything is much greener, the vibe is more relaxed and, most important, the rates are much lower. Casa Elios is a great option if you have dreamed of going to an accessible, tropical destination.

Welcome to our beautiful jungle paradise, available during Costa Rica's Green Season (May though November)
Casa Elios (2 Bedroom/Sleeps 5) and its adjacent Casita, Casa Tranquilo (Sleeps 2) are available together or separately when the area is more relaxing, greener, and, most importantly, much less expensive.
Located in the beautiful, laid-back, beach community of Playa Hermosa, which is about 10 minutes north of the more vibrant Santa Teresa. Both are popular Costa Rica surf/beach destinations with lots to see and do, especially if you love surfing (all levels), yoga (so much yoga), and wellness activities.
We offer our 2 bedroom home and casita monthly and mid-term during the off-season when the crowds are smaller, the vibe is more relaxed, the jungle is greener, the waves are bigger, and, most importantly, the rates are lower. They can be rented together to sleep 8, or as a house that sleeps 5 with a separate guest or work space. You can also rent just the house without the casita.
Rates vary depending on length of stay, number of people, and time of year, with September through November being the quietest and more affordable time to visit. It is also the rainy season so it's perfect for relaxing (think reading, meditation, yoga, romantic stays) or as a getaway for group of friends, a retreat, or whatever inspires you to visit during this magical time of year.
Rates range from $2000 - $3000/month depending on if you are renting one or both properties. It is much less for longer stays (up to 7 months). Please contact us directly to discuss discounted, mid-term rental rates. Minimum stay is one week.
The casita IS available nightly and weekly during the high season (November through May). Rates start at $225/night for holidays (Christmas, New Years, Easter, Semana Santa), $175/night during high season, and $75/night for longer stays (1+ months). Please contact us directly for availability. We share all common areas with our guests but there is a private deck screened with tropical trees for privacy. If you are the social type we're very easy and likable but will also totally respect your privacy.
About the Area:
Santa Teresa is a trendy, laid-back beach and jungle village on Costa Rica's Nicoya Peninsula, about 4.5 hours from both international airports with reliable shuttle and air service from both airports. It is popular for its world-class surfing and instruction (all levels), vibrant yoga retreats, and stunning sunsets. It offers a barefoot paradise with a blend of international cafes, coffee shops, craft b**r breweries, boutiques, and raw, wild nature.
Playa Hermosa offers the best of both worlds with its quieter atmoshere while being in close proximity to Santa Teresa. Both Playa Hermosa and Santa Teresa offer great surfing and instruction for all ages and levels (including a kid's surf school), yoga (so much Yoga), and wellness retreats. There is also fishing, birdwatching, snorkeling, horseback riding, soaking in the nearby tide pools, and a variety of amazing dining options and activities including nearby waterfalls, fishing villages, birding destinations, mountain biking, and jungle adventures. Our house is also close to Hermosa Valley School, one of several international education options available in the area.
Our Accommodations:
Casa Elios, our two bedroom/1 bath house, sleeps 5. It has a salt water pool, AC, wifi, onsite laundry, secure parking, and is a short walk down a jungle path to one of the most beautiful and popular surf beaches in Costa Rica. There are several restaurants, a food market (Super Hermosa) and nearby surf shops.
Casa Tranquilo is our fully furnished studio casita that sleeps 2. It has a fully equipped kitchenette, full bathroom, and access to the pool and common outdoor living areas, while having its own deck for privacy from the main house. The house can be rented separately without the casita but together they are the perfect living/work arrangement or vacation rental for a family or group of friends who desire a separate, guest accommodation or work space. The casita is perfect for a couple and IS available during high season (November through May).
The pool and large deck are surrounded by beautiful, tropical gardens, the sound of singing birds, the fluttering of colorful butterflies, and troops of Howler and White faced (Capuchin) Monkeys.
The house and casita are all on one level and very open so it's 100% wheelchair accessible but all are welcome (We are the only wheelchair accessible house in the area and likely most of Costa Rica). We can also help you plan travel and activities throughout Costa Rica, including wheelchair accessible activities and destinations. Our family has been visiting here since 2012 and lived in Playa Hermosa since 2015. We have travelled extensively throughout Costa Rica and are happy to share our knowledge of this beautiful country.
Casa Elios and Casa Tranquilo are available monthly and midterm during the Green Season (May through November). The price depends on your length of stay and time of year but is much lower than high season. During the Green Season rates are greatly discounted. It's the perfect time to visit if you are looking for a relaxing vibe and quieter, greener, more relaxing or romantic time of year with all the same activities available during the high season but at a much lower price. Occasionally we rent our house out weekly during high season. Reach out to us about limited availability December through May.

About your hosts:
My husband and I have lived just outside Minneapolis/St. Paul. for 30+ yrs, where I worked for the National Park Service and my husband worked for Fairview Hospital as a pedorthist. Before living in the Twin Cities we lived in Colorado.
With our twin, 32-year-old sons, who are both surfers and snowboarders, we did a family trip to Costa Rica in 2011, which opened up a new world which was life-changing and offered new opportunities. We've been living and traveling throughout Costa Rica ever since. Since 2018, after we both retired, we have spent our summers in the Midwest and winters in Costa Rica. Our family loves surfing, yoga, biking, and adaptive sports (my husband uses a wheelchair). We will gladly guide you through your Costa Rica travel experience, especially if you have mobility challenges.
We love Costa Rica and our jungle community and our happy to share our place with you when not there during the green season (May through November) or the casita during the high season, which is next door to us. We are really easy and nice and love meeting new people.

Se encuentran en la hermosa y relajada comunidad costera de Playa Hermosa, situada a unos 10 minutos al norte de Santa Teresa, un lugar con más ambiente. Ambos son destinos populares de surf y playa en Costa Rica con mucho que ver y hacer, especialmente si le gusta el surf (para todos los niveles), el yoga (hay muchísimas opciones) y las actividades de bienestar.
Ofrecemos nuestra casa de 2 dormitorios y la *casita* para alquileres mensuales o de media estancia durante la temporada baja, cuando hay menos gente, el ambiente es más relajado, la selva está más verde, las olas son más grandes y, lo más importante, las tarifas son más bajas. Se pueden alquilar juntas para alojar a 8 personas, o bien alquilar la casa principal (para 5 personas) contando con un espacio independiente para invitados o para trabajar. También es posible alquilar solo la casa, sin la *casita*.
Las tarifas varían según la duración de la estancia, el número de personas y la época del año; los meses de septiembre a noviembre son los más tranquilos y económicos para visitar. Al ser también temporada de lluvias, es el momento perfecto para relajarse (leer, meditar, hacer yoga, disfrutar de una estancia romántica) o para una escapada con amigos, un retiro o cualquier actividad que le inspire a visitarnos durante esta época mágica del año.
Las tarifas oscilan entre los 2000 y los 3000 dólares mensuales, dependiendo de si alquila una o ambas propiedades. El precio es mucho menor para estancias más largas (hasta 7 meses). Por favor, contáctenos directamente para consultar las tarifas con descuento para alquileres de media estancia. La estancia mínima es de una semana.
La *casita* SÍ está disponible para alquileres por noche o por semana durante la temporada alta (de noviembre a mayo). Las tarifas comienzan en 225 $ por noche en fechas festivas (Navidad, Año Nuevo, Semana Santa), 175 $ por noche durante la temporada alta y 75 $ por noche para estancias más largas (más de un mes). Ofrece un paraíso de estilo relajado —donde se puede andar descalzo— que combina cafeterías internacionales, locales de café de especialidad, cervecerías artesanales y boutiques con una naturaleza salvaje y auténtica.
Playa Hermosa ofrece lo mejor de ambos mundos: un ambiente más tranquilo pero muy cerca de Santa Teresa. Tanto Playa Hermosa como Santa Teresa ofrecen excelentes condiciones y clases de surf para todas las edades y niveles (incluida una escuela de surf para niños), yoga (¡mucho yoga!) y retiros de bienestar. También se puede practicar pesca, observación de aves, esnórquel y equitación, o disfrutar de las pozas de marea cercanas. Nuestro alojamiento:
Casa Elios es nuestra casa de dos dormitorios y un baño, con capacidad para 5 personas. Cuenta con piscina de agua salada, aire acondicionado, wifi, lavandería en las instalaciones y aparcamiento seguro; además, se encuentra a un corto paseo por un sendero selvático de una de las playas de surf más bellas y populares de Costa Rica. Hay varios restaurantes, un supermercado (Super Hermosa) y tiendas de surf en las cercanías.
Casa Tranquilo es nuestra pequeña casa tipo estudio, totalmente amueblada y con capacidad para 2 personas. Dispone de cocina pequeña totalmente equipada y baño completo, además de acceso a la piscina y a las zonas comunes al aire libre, aunque cuenta con su propia terraza para garantizar la privacidad respecto a la casa principal. La casa principal puede alquilarse por separado (sin la casita), pero ambas juntas ofrecen una configuración ideal para vivir y trabajar, o bien un alquiler vacacional perfecto para una familia o un grupo de amigos que busquen un alojamiento independiente para invitados o un espacio de trabajo separado. La casita es ideal para una pareja y SÍ está disponible durante la temporada alta (de noviembre a mayo). La piscina y la amplia terraza están rodeadas de hermosos jardines tropicales, el canto de las aves, el revoloteo de coloridas mariposas y grupos de monos aulladores y capuchinos (cara blanca).
Tanto la casa principal como la casita son de una sola planta y tienen un diseño muy abierto, por lo que son 100% accesibles para sillas de ruedas, aunque todo el mundo es bienvenido (somos la única casa accesible para sillas de ruedas en la zona y, probablemente, en la mayor parte de Costa Rica). También podemos ayudarle a planificar sus viajes y actividades por Costa Rica, incluyendo opciones y destinos accesibles para sillas de ruedas. Nuestra familia visita la zona desde 2012 y reside en Playa Hermosa desde 2015. Hemos viajado extensamente por Costa Rica y estaremos encantados de compartir nuestros conocimientos sobre este hermoso país.
