Our volunteers have been out working hard this fall making the trails better. Brushing with the tractor brusher, repairing gates and trail cleanup work. We recently had 35 volunteers for our first fall trail cleanup day. Our trail workers continue to be out repairing, replacing and adding signs to improve directions and safety. Can we please stop defacing signs like this. The Bayfield County Snowmobile Alliance spends over $7000 per year on signs. This is your money. Please respect the trail signs and the hard work of our volunteers.

A unique sign is going up at the north Boat Landing on Lake Owen concerning the boat landing ramp suitability to launch or retrieve boats into Lake Owen with the record low levels of water. The larger boats over time sometimes needed to power up to get on their trailer. That powering up cause quite a deep artificial hole inches from the last cement pad which is causing some larger boat filled trailers going over the cement pads into the hole and causing damage to the trailers and boats when the vehicle guns their engine to try to get over the edge of the cement pad. The town of Drummond has received complaints. The landing boat launch is controlled by the National Forest Service. Hence, the below sign will notify the public where to lodge a complaint if this defect damages their boat, trailer, or vehicle which will continue from time to time until repaired by the National Forest Service. Like the notice says at the bottom, the more people who phone in their complaints, the faster the repair will be. The phone number has been updated since yesterday.

I’d have to say we’re about peak now. And have seen a lot of trees shedding their leaves today.

The leaves are changing fast up here across north-central Wisconsin and also into the U.P. Many areas are reporting some to even high colors. A part of the U.P. is at peak. Things get good in the next 7 days as the forecast calls for peak foliage in the Northwoods and in the U.P. This is the time now to enjoy the foliage. Plan the trip and get out there and enjoy it. The leaves will be gone before you know it. A piece of the U.P. near Marquette is forecasted to go past peak in the next 7 days too.
