Look at this darling vintage high chair I found at the Funky Monkey in Sheffield
AL! Doesn’t it just make you smile? Almost perfect condition. I was thrilled with my find.

My wee little guests can sit at the big table with the grown ups now😍. It’s sanitized and ready for my little guest checking in later today.

The windows are up and there is a cool cross breeze flowing throughout the house. What a gorgeous fall day to welcome guests the cottage.

A beautiful birthday gift from my baby sister. An antique stained glass rooster lamp❤️. Thank you, Barb. It’s perfectly at home at the cottage.

The sweet little vintage pink bud vase was a gift from a guest at the cottage, Sheri Fancher. I love it so much. My family and friends know me and they know what speaks to my heart. I am blessed.

I shared “the rest of the story” as Paul Harvey used to say, with my friend Jo this morning. She said I have to tell y’all the after story, so this is how it went down.

Coming back from Corinth it started clouding up and a few drops started hitting the windshield. I told Karl he needed to pull over when he could and cover the sofa. He assured me it was not going to rain (James Spann) much and I told him I didn’t want ANY rain on the sofa. I asked him to pull off when he got a chance.

Well, don’t you know he took the exit to Memphis and there was no pulling over or turning around. I told him to stop under that bridge ahead but pull over so he wouldn’t get hit and cover the sofa. He put the tarp on and we pull off.

In a few minutes he said “I don’t think I put the pillows back in”. The man that sold us the sofa had put both bottom cushions in a black garbage bag and secured them in the bed of the truck. I snapped my head around and said “I know you didn’t!” There was no exit, no cross over. I said “we’ll have to drive to Memphis and turn around and my pillows will be gone!”

We got off on the next exit a few miles up the road and headed back toward Tupelo. When we passed the bridge, on the opposite side of the road, I was saying “do you see the bag? Some homeless person will sn**ch it up before I get there!”We exit again and loop back by Barnes Crossing and head back toward Memphis.

We get to the bridge and retrieve the bag and securely strap it down. I’m not talking. He says “we won’t get home until 7:00!” I said “if you hadn’t forgotten the pillows we would be in Aberdeen by now.” He said “if you hadn’t had to have this sofa I’d be home now!” Touché!

I said “I need something cold and slushy”. He said “you are not getting it”. We didn’t talk for a while. Lol

And now you know….the rest of the story 😛

Seems most of my really good Marketplace adventures take place on the hottest days of the year. I think this would discourage most people, but not me 😬

I’ve been looking for a sleeper sofa for the cottage for some time now. Sometimes guests will ask if I have a roll away bed or a blow up mattress for extra sleeping room. Personally, I would not want to sleep on either unless I was about 4 years old.

Well, I found one. Just one catch…it’s in Corinth, MS😳. The price was right, it’s a Lane and in perfect condition, no pets, no smoking. Been in a formal living room
and rarely used. Bingo! Now, how do I break this to Karl? Ooohhhh Luuucccy😬

It took several days of listening to what a stupid idea this is, don’t you know how heavy they are, who’s going to help load it? All of which I responded…it will work out. I’m not worried. I’m praying about it 🙏

So, I make arrangements to go pick it up today after church. Karl asks how far it is to Corinth, as if he has never been there before, to which I reply “it’s just up the road”. That’s my standard line. You would think he would know better by now:)

He begins worrying on Sat night. How are we going to load it? I told him I’d figure it out. I’m still praying and God will make a way. You just have to have faith. I don’t think he had as much as a mustard seed. He is a worrier! I tell him to just get the straps and a tarp. Did you make sure it would fit in the truck, he asked? Of course I did…sorta.

We head out on our Marketplace adventure once again. I tell him to drive north on Hwy 45 until I tell him to stop. I’ve got my neck pillow snoozing and he is chewing his tongue. We get to Corinth and drive by the house which I had already checked out on Google Maps. Very nice area. I had tried to contact 2 churches in the area to see if any of their youth could help thinking a donation would be appealing to them. Neither church responded. So glad I wasn’t having a spiritual crisis! I had also noticed on Google Maps there was an Athletic Club within half a mile. Ah ha! There ya go…good strong athletes. That’s what I need.

We pull in the parking lot and Karl goes in the Pro Shop mumbling under his breath. In a bit he comes out smiling and says I found two young guys that are going to follow us up there on the golf cart. He looked so pleased with himself. I looked at him and said “I told you…I’ve been praying”😁

We get to the house and these young guys loaded the sofa in the back of the truck and made it look like child’s work. I gave them each a little spending money and they were tickled to death. We thanked them and I told them not to forget to pray about everything. Big and little things. Very polite and cute as bugs.

We are headed home and hope to beat the rain. I have another idea but I hate to bring it up right now. I’ll give it a couple of weeks. It’s starting to rain. Shall we pray?

100 degrees at 5:00 pm. No relief in sight. Praying for those suffering in these extreme temps. Check on your elderly neighbors. Lord, we need rain! I’ve had to quit worrying about my butterfly garden and flowers. Instead I’m trying to save the small trees and shrubs.

But, the a/c at the Country Cottage is working beautifully and it will be ready for my guests on Friday. Wish they could have seen the spring flowers. Oh well…we will praise Him in all circumstances 🙌. Still blessed beyond measure. Happy Sunday, friends!

It’s been at hot summer at the cottage. The sunflowers and zinnias are struggling to hang on. I’m thankful for the intermittent rains we have received to offer a bit of relief.

We closed the cottage in July to have time to take care of some maintenance and beautification issues and for a little shoulder surgery. While I was recouping, we had a new field line put in. It was not a glamorous upgrade but necessary. We also had the back porch ceiling, walls and floor painted for a fresh look. It looks so much cleaner and brighter.

But, my favorite upgrade was the installation of my antique stained glass window in the kitchen. I found the piece on Facebook Marketplace in Montevallo, AL. I didn’t even measure the window because I just knew it would fit perfectly. I sweet talked my husband into taking a ride with me and it was quite the trip! We drove on dirt roads and eventually lost cell service but somehow found our connection.

The man was asking quite a bit for the window and when Karl saw it, he said uh, no thanks… it’s rotten! I think the man had gotten tired of waiting on us to follow the bread crumbs to his field so he quickly replied, just give me $50. I handed him the money before Karl could say anything. The guy helped him load it up. Two out of three of us were smiling when we pulled out. Karl…not so much. He didn’t have the vision. lol

Thanks to my handy, dandy brother-in-law, Terry, my vision turned out beautifully! He had to remove the rotted wood and when he did that, parts of the stained glass fell apart. It was an old transom window and had been stored probably in a barn somewhere. He had to order new lead and bought wood and glue and paint and spent countless hours working on my window. He is so talented and refuses to be defeated. He will try anything. I do love that about him.

I could not believe my eyes when I saw my window. He saved it! It was exactly what I had wanted for the kitchen window. It’s a sunrise or sunset looking out at the beautiful pasture next door. Perfect❤️. I can’t thank him enough.

We are back open now and have guests visiting family here from Tucson , AZ. We are starting to book up for the fall and are ready for our football guests to roll in. If you have guests coming in for a visit, we would love to host them. I’ll do my best to make them feel at home.
