Maybe you paid your respects this Memorial Day… I walked over to the old home site across the creek today and paid mine.
The story goes that this old home site was started twice by two brothers who were called off to war at different times.
-Charles Conrad Paul was a Corporal in the 105th Supply Train 30th Division in World War 1. He was gassed while serving in France and died of Tuberculosis.
- Duke Marion Paul was a 2nd Lieutenant and pilot in the US Air Corps. He was killed in action with his crew while flying over the Himalayans in Assam India on a bombing run on April 2, 1942. He is buried in the Zackary Taylor National Cemetery in Louisville Kentucky.
You can see the half finished walls and the fireplace hearth. There is a rock pile beside it with the intent of being used to complete the home on the banks of the creek….but each time these gentlemen put their hopes and dreams on hold to fight for this country.
The home was never completed by the family. Last year we cleaned up some fallen trees and we watch over it to make sure it’s not disturbed.
I’m sure you know of a story or two of sacrifices like these two gentlemen.
Come visit us and I’d be more than happy to show you the place and you can pay your respects too.
