James Michael (Mike) Gurganus, born February 14, 1948 in Goldsboro NC went to be with his Savior Jesus Christ on January 31, 2022 in San Antonio TX. Mike Gurganus, loving husband of 46 years to Evelyn (Scott) Gurganus was a beloved father, Paw-Paw, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, friend, and soldier. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Doris Gurganus, brother Kent, and beloved Uncle Buddy and Aunt Joyce Gurganus. Mike was a father to Michele Gurganus, George (Jacque) Gurganus, Erin (John) McLendon, and Leslie King. He adored his grandchildren (Jena, Matthew, Morgan, Madison, Sean, Emma, Bailie, and Jacob) and great-grandchildren (Artie, Gracie, Thompson, and Easton). Mike is also survived by his brother Tony (MaryBeth) Gurganus of Marianna FL, cousins (Jimmy, Sammy, Fred, Randy, Marie, Grace, Danny, Tammy, Ricky, Darlene), extended family, and numerous church, military, Masonic, and golfing friends.
Mike’s greatest honor was to serve his country and he retired as US Army Sgt Major after 27 years of service. He was a member of St Paul Lutheran Church, Canyon Lake Masonic Lodge (32nd degree), Alzafar Shrine, Valero Texas Open Tournament Leadership Council, and was a diehard Alabama football fan (Roll Tide).
The memorial service celebrating Mike’s life will be held at 5:00pm on March 28, 2022 at St Paul Lutheran Church, Bulverde, TX. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Mike Gurganus Special Needs Fund for Bailie French at GoFundMe
