Nestled in the Palo Duro Canyon system just south of Amarillo, TX, Camp Don Harrington is a Boy Scouts of America camp with not only an amazing scenery to enjoy but outstanding facilities and programs offered on camp. The camp currently has 16 campsites with the addition of several remote "backpack training" camp areas that are works in progress at this time. The camp is a refuge to many differen

t types wildlife including deer, turkeys, raccoons, hawks, herons, owls, roadrunners, snakes and many different insects, just to name a few. Scouts and their families enjoy hiking, biking, and camping while enjoying the beauty of the wildlife and plant life here. Programming offerings are vast and include, but are not limited to: camping, hiking, COPE and climbing, canoeing, rowboats, fishing, swimming pool activities (swimming, lifesaving, snorkeling), shooting sports (rifle range, shotgun wobble stand, 5 stand, tournaments, and archery range), biking, Cub World (fort, teepees, castle, & pirate ship), general activity field, nature trail, chapel area and so much more! You will not want to visit our camp without crossing the swinging bridge and taking a picture with the iconic totem poles at the camp program area entrance. Facilities on camp include: Dining Hall (capacity 500 people), Medical lodge, Administration building (registration, trading post, training room, lounge), Campmaster Lodge & Cabin for Campmaster program, chapel pavilion, shooting sports pavilion, old trading post (original camp admin building), COPE pavilion, kybos throughout camp, centrally located bathhouse & restrooms, & pool showers at swimming pool. Have you heard? Spookoree is coming to Camp Don on October 24! Are you registered? If not, you still have time! Just simply go to www.goldenspread.org and click on the Calendar Tab. All Packs are welcome to attend, however YOU CAN COME WITHOUT YOUR PACK! Fun will be the theme as we are preparing for you to have FUN. Shooting Sports, Hay Ride, Ghost Walk, Pumpkin Painting and Launching, Midway games and more.

A HUGE thank you to everyone who came to camp and volunteered their time to help get the pool ready to go! Having a 150,000 gallon pool can certainly be a huge task for one Ranger to handle. We have such amazing aquatics team and volunteer group that serve here at the camp. Now to rebuild on the pump and motor...we can’t wait for summer to get here so we can use the pool!

Over 12 tons of fire fuel hauled off today, even more chipped for erosion control, and still quite a bit more to chip! WOW! Way to go Firewise Fire Prevention Crew! A huge thank you goes out to everyone for their service! Over 120 people on today’s crew worked all afternoon to mitigate fire risks at Camp Don Harrington. Thank you again to Jake with Jakob Tree for teaching us about trees, Palisades and Timbercreek Fire Departments for service work & education time, and the Ranger Corps for the weeks of prep work for this event! We couldn’t do it without you for sure! Thank you for caring for your camp.

Lots of Firewise work already happening this morning with our morning Adult work crew! What a great group of guys! We can’t wait to see everyone this afternoon for our afternoon Fire Prevention Crew and Fire Safety Education time. Thank you for all you do to keep your camp safe. A HUGE shoutout and thank you to Palisades Fire Dept and Timbercreek Fire Dept for stepping up to serve and educate with us here at Camp Don Harrington. True servants heart!

All 50ish of us are hanging out in the dining hall and having a great time! We’ve got indoor frisbees, checkers, jump ropes, indoor yard darts, and much more fun happening! Oh and of course some hot chocolate for the kiddos and coffee for the older ones! 😉 Almost to where we can go survey the damage to the tents. We got quite a bit of golf ball to baseball size hail. Everyone is safe though!

Stay safe out there Texas panhandle! Have no fear, Ranger Ken has everyone safe and taken care of here at Camp Don Harrington. We always keep a close eye on the storms when we have people on camp! Ranger Ken and Brenda are both storm spotters so there’s some good watch out for the Scouts! Thank you for everyone that is calling, checking on us, and making sure we know what’s headed towards the area. We have such a great Scout family!
