“Very good choice in Carmel. Award correct compared to other accommodation in Carmel with quiet room, comfortable, super clean and super well equipped! Very convenient parking on site. Simple breakfast (pastries, orange juices, coffee, yogurt and fruit) but sufficient and very good! Lovely staff and perfect location in Carmel to do everything on foot!”

Unforgettable Family Summer Getaway in Carmel and Monterey Bay!

This post was made possible by a collaboration with Hofsas House Hotel.

I’ve been visiting the Carmel and Monterey Bay area since I was a little girl. I have an uncle who lives in Seaside, California, and I have great memories of visiting his family with my parents. We would stay at my uncle’s house, and then my dad would drive us to Monterey so we could visit the aquarium. Oh, how I loved seeing the kelp forest exhibit and the adorable sea otters! During other trips, we would explore Carmel-by-the-sea, strolling along the charming cobblestone streets and eventually winding up at the stunning Carmel Beach!

Fast forward to 2025—when planning our summer vacation, I knew we had to revisit Carmel-by-Sea. Five years ago, we had the pleasure of staying at Hofsas House. The hotel is a charming gem, offering warm hospitality in a European setting with its Dutch doors, pastel pink walls, and colorful murals (one by the entrance and another by the outdoor pool).

You can’t beat the location of Hofsas House! It’s just a short walk from the shops, restaurants, and Carmel Beach. Plus, the views from their balconies are absolutely gorgeous!

Our trip started on Sunday, and after a quick stop in San Luis Obispo for lunch, we arrived just in time for the 3 PM check-in. Our home base for the next few days was a deluxe 2-bedroom, 2-bath suite, complete with a lovely fireplace that was perfect for cozying up on chilly nights.

Next weekend, Carmel opens its galleries for the 7th Annual Meet the Makers Art & W**e Walk, and it is one of the loveliest ways to spend an evening in the village.

Saturday, October 10, from 4 to 7 pm, the stroll begins at Devendorf Park and winds through downtown Carmel-by-the-Sea. Look for the blue lanterns. Inside, you will meet the artists who carry on this artist-colony legacy, tour their galleries, sip Monterey County w**es, and taste creations from local kitchens. It is unhurried, walkable, and very much the Carmel our guests come here to find.

Tickets are $50 and include the w**e and food tastings. Gallery touring is part of the evening. We expect the day-of supply to go quickly, so if you are arriving next weekend, it is worth securing yours now.
