This Halloween weekend, trade the costume party for creaky floorboards, porch lanterns, and a rocking chair on our wraparound veranda.

The Old Carrabelle Hotel has stood on Tallahassee Street for a long, long time. We can't promise a ghost, but we can promise old-building character, a quiet Key West–style courtyard, and a crisp Forgotten Coast fall evening.

Costumed pups take over downtown Apalachicola this Saturday, Oct 24, from noon to 4 at Riverfront Park. There's a trick-or-treat stroll through the pet-friendly shops, a photo booth, gumbo and local oysters, and a Franklin County Humane Society adoption event. It's free and for a good cause.

Feast in Apalach. Sleep quiet in Carrabelle.

Florida's oldest maritime festival is back under the oaks at Battery Park in Apalachicola, Nov 6–7. Friday has the Blessing of the Fleet, and admission is free. Saturday brings the parade, the oyster shucking and eating contests, and blue crab races for the kids. This is the 63rd year, and with Apalachicola Bay's wild oyster season open again, it should be a good one.

Spend the day in Apalach, then head back down 98 to a quiet room and a porch in Carrabelle. We still have a few rooms that weekend.

Porch Fest Apalach — Oct 10
Downtown Apalachicola turns into a porch-stage music day on Saturday, Oct 10 — Porch Fest Apalach, free, roughly 11am–6pm, starting and ending at Battery Park. Twenty-nine performers around town. That’s the Forgotten Coast at its best: real Main Street energy, then the scenic drive home.

Base yourself in Carrabelle. Spend the day in Apalachicola. Come back to quieter beaches and a slower night at The Old Carrabelle Hotel.

Some of our favorite weekends here are the unplanned ones. A a drive to Apalachicola, an ice-cold b**r on the porch (chilled with our brand new fridge), sunset by the water, and nowhere you really have to be.
