Trout On™ Inn Grey Reef Weekend Fishing Report | North Platte River
The Grey Reef Dam is currently releasing 1,000 CFS, noticeably higher than recent weeks but still very fishable. The increased flows should spread fish into a wider variety of holding water, with softer seams, slower banks, and deeper runs likely to be productive.
Weekend Weather
Warm temperatures continue this weekend, with highs near 87° Saturday and 77° Sunday. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible both days, along with afternoon winds, making early mornings and evenings especially appealing.
Angler Report
With flows up to 1,000 CFS, trout are shifting their feeding lanes, making depth and presentation especially important. Look for fish along softer edges, inside seams, drop-offs, and slower pockets adjacent to faster current.
Midges remain a staple, while scuds, sow bugs, leeches, worms, and small streamers should all produce. Nymph rigs should remain the most consistent approach, though streamers may also find success along banks and structure as fish reposition with the higher water.
A Quick Word on Wading
With flows currently at 1,000 CFS, anglers planning to wade should take a little extra care and check current conditions before stepping into the river. Areas that were easily crossed at lower flows may now be considerably deeper or faster. A wading staff and a healthy dose of caution are always good ideas. When in doubt, stay dry and enjoy the view from the boat.
