Even with all the action of our campground being in full swing this summer, lately we've seen an extraordinary amount of wildlife here on our property! Deer, turkey, and even our laid-back racoons have been spotted by campers in the past few months.

It's like Animal Kingdom knows they're safe here, and have found sanctuary among our acres of forest. We love seeing them, and snapping pictures makes for great memories. Say cheese, Mr. Buck! :)

You've heard of the Transylvania County Blue Ghost Fireflies...but did you ever wish you could see them in person?

The Cradle of Forestry in the Pisgah National Forest is hosting its annual Spring tour to see these elusive creatures - and for the cost of a ticket, you'll listen to an educational talk in an amphitheater and then walk in the cover of darkness (with special flashlights) on a paved hiking trail through the forest in search of "Nature's Little Fairies". It's something that should definitely be on everyone's bucket list!

Combine your visit with a stay at the Black Forest Campground! We still have plenty of sites for the dates the tours are taking place (May 10-15, May 17-21, May 24 and June 7-8) and we'd love to see your pictures and hear all about them. :)

Hi Campers,
We just wanted to on pass this information if you were planning on visiting Pretty Place Chapel this Summer while staying at the campground. Sad to hear this news but understandable for the safety of their campers and families during their camp season.

VISITING HOURS UPDATE: In recent years, Pretty Place has become an increasingly popular destination and chapel visitation has increased significantly. With that growth comes a responsibility to care well for both this space and the campers who call camp home each summer. Pretty Place Chapel is a facility on the grounds of YMCA Camp Greenville, which is first and foremost, an overnight summer camp for children and families.

To preserve the quality of experience and put proactive measures in place to enhance the safety of our campers, as well as for hosts of weddings and other reserved events, Pretty Place will be closed to the public each summer moving forward.

For summer 2026 specifically, public visitation will pause beginning May 22 and will resume on August 24.

All weddings and previously reserved events will continue as planned for summer 2026. The chapel will also remain available for private event bookings during the summer months for 2026 and beyond.


If you are planning a visit outside of these dates, as always, we encourage you to check the visiting hours at campgreenville.org/visitation-schedule in advance (schedule posted with a 2 week lead time due to frequent changes)
