The Warfield House is owned by the Schaefer Family who also owns Berkshire East Mountain Resort. The Charlemont area is ‘old’ from an historical recreation point of view. Some of first ski areas in New England were located in and around Charlemont including Thunder Mountain which was renamed Berkshire East in the early 1970’s. Recently Charlemont has become one of the fastest growing, most exciting recreational areas on the eastern seaboard with the addition of whitewater rafting in the 1990’s, zip lining in 2009, a mountain coaster in 2014, and downhill mountain biking in 2015.
