Merry Christmas! Peace on Earth and goodwill towards all. Last night the high winds and rain washed away all the snow, so we woke to a not white Christmas. Another 2020 metaphor? This too will pass. To 2021!!!

Independence Day covid-19 style in Vermont

One last run at Mad River Glen. I think there is still a trail open at Killington. This is why the best skiers come from the East; no namby-pamby open glens of power for us!! Get in that culvert and shut up! Snow? Pfffft! (And! There's money in them there hills!)

Well, it's a chilly morning, the morning after a beautiful Memorial Day. Memorial Day makes one think with a particular sadness. I think about all the young people who lost their lives fighting for our country, who lost the joy of feeling sunshine on their faces in May, and seeing the lush yellow-greens of the trees all around them. They are loved and unforgotten. They knew, as we all do, that life goes on. So, in this area they say never plant until after Memorial Day and this chilly morning is a reminder. There was frost in Essex County VT and Coos County NH, the farthest north counties. Carpe diem!

We have just had a fabulous Fall and half a Winter! Today is windy and cold and guess what! No guests tonight. I can't blame them. I will be off to the Southwest with two of our kids for the mid-winter relief. The four corners region. So grand and beautiful and dusty, with ponderosas, canyons, arroyos, rios, buckaroos, corrals, ranchos , rodeos, desperados and other Spanish words! When I get back I'll tell you a tall tale about the Easterner who went out West with just his painting kit and some dreams... We'll have a helluva breakfast here at the Inn. Huevos rancheros anyone? Yee Haw!

So this is Happy Thanksgiving with Daniel and Rachel. We hopped in the car to take a little ride around and ended up in Arnold Bay. Arnold baby cuz Benedict Arnold scuttled his boats near this spot so the British couldn't capture them. It's interesting, at that time he was lauded as a brilliant and sagacious Admiral, but we all know the rest of the story. By the way 11 degrees this morning and as you can see ice on the rocks and snow everywhere. I have nothing more to say.

Our guests Brendan and Christiana (with baby Quinn sleeping) set themselves up beautifully with salad and pizza by the fire. Genius!

Summer, it seems, is suddenly on its way out! Cool air switches with warm, the days are shorter and, yup, the leaves are turning a bit. But yesterday was a glorious bright day. We saw the bike races in Burlington. Man, do they MOVE.
