Jazz on the Boardwalk, then a peaceful night under the pines.

Atlantic City Jazz Fest: Kirk Whalum is set for Friday, September 11, 2026 at 7:00 PM at Sound Waves inside Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City (1000 Boardwalk). If you know the sax from Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You,” you already know this will be a special night.

Make it an easy Pine Barrens + shore outing: stay at Wading Pines Camping Resort in Chatsworth, NJ, enjoy a relaxed campground morning, then head out for a concert night in Atlantic City (about an hour by car, traffic depending).

Save this as your September 11 getaway plan, then comment: cabin, RV, or tent for your jazz weekend?

Campfire tonight at Wading Pines… cedar-water paddling tomorrow. Sound like your kind of getaway?

Just down the road, Pinelands Adventures (1005 Atsion Rd, Shamong, NJ 08088) is a top-rated way to explore Wharton State Forest and the Pinelands National Reserve—think quiet waterways, tea-colored “cedar water,” and miles of protected pines.

Choose your pace:
- Self-guided kayak or canoe trips
- Guided eco-tours that spotlight local history + wildlife
- Shuttle-supported one-way routes on the Mullica River (with options that can run toward historic Batsto)

Save this for your next Wading Pines itinerary (it’s an easy day-trip from camp). Which would you pick: a self-guided paddle or a guided eco-tour?

August in South Jersey means one thing: peak farm stand season! 🍅🌽

There is nothing quite like a campfire dinner made with local "Jersey Fresh" ingredients. On your way to Wading Pines, we highly recommend pulling over at one of the many fantastic local farm stands in Burlington County.

Grab some world-famous Jersey tomatoes, sweet corn to roast right over your fire pit, and maybe a fresh blueberry pie for dessert. It is the ultimate end-of-summer camping feast!

What is your absolute favorite meal to cook over a campfire? Let us know below! 👇🏕️

Want a calm Pinelands “lake day” with sand, shade, and tea-colored water that’s naturally tinted (not pollution)?

Lake Absegami Day Use Area in Bass River State Forest is a low-key favorite for families and first-time paddlers: a small, sheltered lake with a sandy swim spot, picnic tables nearby, and pine-and-oak forest views in every direction.

A simple plan to pair with your Wading Pines Camping Resort stay:
• Swim + beach blankets in the sun, then cool off under the pines
• Paddle the quiet shoreline (canoe/kayak/SUP) and watch for dragonflies
• Pack a picnic and stay for golden-hour reflections on the water

Ever wonder why the Pine Barrens has so many “perfectly placed” sand roads, bridges, and clear corridors through the woods?

A big part of the answer goes back to the 1930s—when Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) camps arrived nearby as part of Roosevelt’s nationwide “Tree Army.” In the Pine Barrens, CCC crews cut sand roads and truck trails, built firebreaks, and constructed forest infrastructure—headquarters, bridges, dams, and even man-made lakes—that still shape how people (and firefighters) move through these forests today.

One of the most visible changes: an old cranberry bog was transformed into Lake Nummy, turning working wetlands into a recreation hub that still anchors the layout of the forest with swimming, camping, and cabins nearby. Those same sandy routes and firebreak lines weren’t just for exploring—they were designed to help crews reach remote pitch pine and oak stands fast and slow the spread of wildfires in a landscape built to burn.

Today, the Pinelands is recognized globally as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, packed with rare and threatened plants—and researchers still rely on that early road network to reach ponds and forest edges for long-running wildlife studies.

Ever wish you could walk into a real “ghost town” in the Pine Barrens—without leaving the trails behind?

Add Batsto Village to your Wading Pines Camping Resort stay (we’re open April 1–November 1). This preserved 18th–19th century iron and glassmaking company town sits inside Wharton State Forest, with a walkable cluster of original buildings, riverside scenery, and that quiet, time-frozen feeling you can’t fake.

Don’t miss:
- The Italianate Batsto Mansion (guided tours are offered seasonally)
- Workers’ cottages, mill buildings, and the old village streets
- Nearby forest trails you can pair with your history stop
