Cinque Smith packed up his art this week, and the lobby feels different without it.

Swipe through the takedown — plus the pieces that lived here all season, the ones guests stopped for on their way to the elevator, the ones that made a hallway feel like something else entirely.

This residency was one of our favorites. Cinque brought exactly what Proof of Life was reaching for: presence, memory, the human hand still visible in the work.

He was generous with his time, his process, and his stories, and the hotel is better for having had him in it.

Thank you, Cinque — for the art, partnership and friendship.

The walls won’t stay empty for long. New artist in residence announced later this week. 👀

A work of art, officially. 🎨

We’re proud to celebrate Cinque Smith, The Emily Hotel’s Artist-in-Residence, for winning Project Windows’ “Most Artistic” Award for his installation on our lobby windows.

Created in partnership with The Art Institute of Chicago, Cinque’s work draws inspiration from the Willem de Kooning Drawing exhibit - transforming four of our front windows into a bold, large-scale expression of movement, abstraction and storytelling.

Congratulations, Cinque, on a well-deserved recognition and thank you for continuing to make The Emily a place where art lives beyond the gallery walls.
