If you’re like me, you might be wanting a simpler, more Natural way of life these days.
We live in an instant, electronic, right now type of world today, that can be not so forgiving. I cannot decide myself what is the right move half of the time.
Here is what I know:
1. early childhood education: I’m educated, experienced, dedicated, and ever evolving in this field
2. Kids: I’m a mother, an aunt, a teacher, a friend, an intervention specialist….. I’ve had the privilege of knowing many different personalities and needs throughout my teaching journey
3. Outdoors- I don’t know what it is but something is drawing me there more and more these days. Why are we not utilizing the learning opportunities in this type of obvious setting? Can I or my kids: identify safe and unsafe plants/animals etc? Can we garden? Can we find new ways to interact and preserve our natural environments? Can we use complete imagination or processed complex thinking to explore and problem solve?
4. Animals/farm- yes your child will encounter animals and outdoor life in a safe manor.
5. Schools- I love the school environment. There is certainly a “normalcy” and productive side to being at a brick and mortar school.. absolutely. There is structure, procedure, discipline, diversity, expansive opportunities at various schools. I don’t think I could prepare my teenage boys for life in the business world. But early childhood? I wish I had let them learn and grow in a more natural way at the time Pushed the “old school” don’t come in until the lights come on, explore, challenge boundaries, type of thing more often. Don’t get me wrong, my family is an outdoor family, but we certainly yielded to the convenience of the modern technology world.
6. Balance- is there a great balance between teaching “old school” and preparing for today’s workforce/life? We cannot eliminate the obvious need, but what we can do is enhance what has always been there before. Through this process, I aim to find the balance that is best suited for myself and my family. Bringing the outdoors in if necessary.
7. Expansion- I have a lot of talents and ideas. I love the idea of being a learning provider for those with special needs, tutor for early childhood needs, maybe even offering special “programs” or nature inspired experiences to the traditional classroom? Idk!!
8. The sky is the limit, but I need to make money as well- I plan to offer services such as these that are above normal “babysitting” prices but below your private school program. I am experienced, have a degree, the accessibility and determination. Am I licensed as a program - no. This is a trial and error type of thing to see if the interest is there to move forward. Sustainability as my husband says.
