Ready for the Florida Python Challenge?
The 2026 Florida Python Challenge runs July 10 through July 19, giving participants the opportunity to help remove invasive Burmese pythons from South Florida while raising awareness about the threat these snakes pose to the Everglades ecosystem.
If youâre heading into the field, remember the basics:
â
Wear long pants, closed-toe hiking shoes or boots, and protective gloves.
â
Bring a flashlight and a snake hook or other long-handled tools.
â
Learn how to positively identify Burmese pythons before heading out. Native wildlife should always be left alone.
â
Canal banks, levees, habitat edges, and open areas are often productive places to search.
â
Respect the Everglades by staying on established paths when possible, returning overturned rocks or logs, and packing out any trash.
â
Participants 18 and under must have a parent or guardian complete registration.
